The ONLY reason to fish with a fly rod in Texas is to throw a POPPER, casting any other type fly just means you're doing something.

Does the fly that you are looking for have a wire body? The picture is a "Copper John" pattern. The "Brassie" is another wire body fly that is similar to the Copper John, but is easier to tie. Both of these patterns can be tied with red wire. Here's one version of a Brassie, but these are smaller than you're looking for. http://texasfishingforum.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/topics/8243437/Feeling_Patriotic#Post8243437

Sounds like a fly that Keebranch showed me at the Red River Rendezous, but I don't remember the name. Les, where are you?

Are you talking the the Moreau fly? If so, a light jig preferably a 1/100 ounce works best up to a 1/64 if the current is working against you. Recipe as follows: Jam knot red thread wrap to bend Old over 2-3 strands of flash and tie in. Cut longer length short to give a staggered appearance.begin wrapping red thread to jig head. Stop each third wrap and work to creat a cone up to head. Whip finish. Super glue.
Very easy tie. Les
