So my sons and I are fishing at Ray Hubbard and some dude decides to through his cast net.
Had fished for a couple hours and just nailed what was working (pulled in a couple drum and a big mouth within 15 minutes).
Bamm. This dude and his ~8 year son. Cast net in the water. Of course the fish are gone now. Then he does it again a couple more times. No one else made comment then I asked what the heck dude.
Fish are all gone now. His response, its a free country and no law against it. And he is teaching his son poor etiquette as well.
My reply..............cool. When you start fishing we will just start throwing rocks near your bait. He shut up and moved but the damage was done. We gave away our fish and packed up and left.
Personally I never toss my net anywhere close to people fishing......especially if they care catching fish.

Not close at all but the way the cove was shaped he hit an angle to make a big splash and about 20 feet from where we "had" caught fish.
He could clearly see our bobbers.

I generaly throw mine from a kayak so never a problem. I don't think its right to throw directly twards your baits...but at the same time I don't get upset if someone does. Dont let stuff get under your skin. After all its fishing.

Did not get to upset. Problem is we had just hit the secret sauce and my 10 and 12 year olds were catching fish.
I can always come back another day but behavior such as that is like taking a kids candy.
We left and will hopefully be in the boat on Saturday

If you were fishing from the boat ramp, I would say move somewhere else. However, since you were away from the ramp, the guy should have tossed a little further away. Use this experience to teach your son.
I have thrown from the ramp while others are fishing on the ramp, not suppose to on Lavon. However, I do try to avoid getting too close. If I'm in the boat, I'll move further down the bank.
If a small kid is fishing, I try to avoid this situation as much as possible.

While banking it, I've had skier run too close the bank whereI'm fishing. Even have a fisherman run his boat so close I had to lower the rod tip while reeling in a fish. If I hadn't the person in front would have caught the line about chest to neck high.
You will always run across rude/inconsiderate people. Use each incident as a teaching lesson.

I move a long ways away any fishermen before I throw my net. We are on the water everyday and see all kinds of stuff. To a lot of folks credit, folks just don't know what they are doing. They have no idea they are spooking fish or getting too close to ya.
I don't think that was the case w/ your situation...his remark to you kind showed where he stood. He knew, he just didn't care.

I remember going out with my grandfather and uncles as a kid. If the fish were not bitting I'd toss a rock in the water. That 1000 yard stare................ok let me just move to a safe distance.
I see fishing as the true gentlemens sport. As obvious from this site....a fisherman will share info on whats biting and where. A fisherman will share tackle. And on that rare occasion and cold beer ....think I might have one now.
By the way. looking for a Lavon crappie guide. Any tips

He could clearly see our bobbers. then yeah the dude was just being an a-hole! I've thrown my net on boat ramps with people fishing near by....but i dont go off roaming and throw my net into an area where someone is fishing!

Personally I never toss my net anywhere close to people fishing......especially if they care catching fish. Actually there is a law against it. If he was purposely throwing near you to run off the fish that is harressment of a sportsman and illegal. In fact most game wardens get pretty upset about that sort of behavior because they know too many times it can lead to violence.
