Ok, here's the story. Have a Johnson 9.9hp 2 stroke kicker motor mounted on the boat, and it usually only runs at low RPMs (trolling speeds). Just had the lower unit service done a few months ago w/ new impeller & new seal.

The boat has sat unused in storage for about four months with the motor tilted straight down. Brought it home today to run & flush both motors. About an hour after this was done, there was a puddle of grayish oily liquid under the kicker motor, and I could see a small amount dripping out of the propeller.

My thought it that this is probably unburned oil accumulated in the exhaust that got flushed out, but was wondering if this could be a sign of a busted lower unit seal?

Thoughts?

Check the lower oil to see if it looks like whats coming out of the prop.

What did it smell like? If it smells funky then it's probably lower unit lube. If it just smells like 2 stroke then it's probably excess from the gas.If it did much low speed running it can load up on excess oil.
