So...after watching about 50 YouTube videos one thing stands out to me. Most say not to use your standard Flouro as leader material. They say to use actual Flouro leader material. Other notable theories are to try and strip the coating off of the braid before tying lines together. Also, some say to make your tag end on the braid clean and to not leave any fraying or it will create a possible failure.
I haven't had much success doing this. I am actually batting a 1.000 with failures on the hook set. I would like to hear from those with real life experience. I have questions about line used on both braid and flouro when joining them, how often you retie, and success vs. failure rate. I am not talking about the use of it on fairy wands. I am talking about flipping and pitching. Only time I use braid now is for froggin'.

Another vote for the Alberto knot. My use is closer to the fairy wand side but Alberto Knie developed the knot surf fishing for stripers on the east coast. Those guys sling heavy weights a loong way and handle big fish so I would say it will handle heavier applications as well.
FWIW, I use it crappie fishing tieing 10# Fireline to 8/10# fluoro. I found it after having an almost 100% line to leader failure rate whenever I hung up. In the 3 years since then I've broken exactly one connection.

I used to have trouble breaking leaders (mono/fluoro) tied to braid. Helped me to loosen the drag so it would slip some on hard hookset. Braid has zero stretch so something has to give on a hard hookset.

I've had my share of break offs on hook sets but had better results when I added more turns to the braid portion of the double uni. Using 17# Bass Pro Fluoro and braid, I would make 12 or 13 turns on the braid uni before pulling it tight, and 8 or 9 on the fluoro knot. I found this suggestion on a saltwater forum. My guess is that it distributes the force of a hook set over more turns and the braid doesn't cinch down as much.
Have also used the Slim Beauty knot with success. My biggest problem with it is forgetting how to tie it. I think my brain can only handle one or two knots.

In the 3 years since then I've broken exactly one connection. Been using it for almost three years know, withouth failure, when tied correctly. The few failures that I did have were my own fault and not the knots. I have broken the leader before the knot failed. And yes, use leader material not the actual flouro line. There is a difference. As for the tag ends I leave about 1/16 of an inch out on both. The knot will continue to cinch down as it becomes wetter and as you put more pressure on it. Very easy to tie as well.

This is the best knot I have found. Agree on the Alberto Knot, been using it in the salt for over 15 years. I knew it as the Modified Albright before finding out Alberto was the guy that came up with it. Proven winner. http://www.bing.com/videos/search?q...5662F25BC&view=detail&FORM=VIRE2This knot is good for tying mono leader to braid or same/different test mono to mono, mono to fluro. For left handers (I tie left handed for some reason) always hold the more wrappable line in your right hand, it still takes both hands.

I have been experimenting with the braid to flouro set up, particularly on my spinning gear.
I think the Alberto knot is the best one you can tie, and I do believe it is a variation of the Albright knot. When tied properly, it leaves a very streamlined knot.
The first time I tried the knot, I was using 10 # braid to 8 # flouro. (I think I might need to go up one size on the braid, but I have had success with this set-up.) I shocked loaded the knot just by popping it, and I broke the braid, knot still in tact. In fact, I am almost certain that the weak link is still the knot on the hook. Either case, I have nothing but confidence in that connection between the two lines.
I have also noticed that cast-ability has gone through the roof.

Blood knot. Try it easy to tying and a great quick way to make lines work together

I've been using the uni to uni knot, but after watching the Alberto knot I might have to give that a try.
As to leader material, I use my normal floro line. I like braid for how it casts and fishes not necessarily for its strength, although that's a plus as well. The usage of a leader in my case is simply to hide the braid the last 10-12 feet to the hook.
I've broken off line, but hardly ever at the line junction. It's almost always closer to the hook.

Used the Albright knot today and tried some weightless finesse fishing with great success. Knot held up fine, no issues running through the guides.
Leader was flouro and rest was 20# braid.
