Anybody fish Lake O the Pines? I use to fish there pretty regularly but haven't in a while. Thinking about going back to fishing there and wonder how it's been.

Hell I'm not even sure where that is. But thats not surprising since there is sooooo much good water in this state.

I've camped there but never during my kayak era.... Bet it would be awesome for the yak... And hey, if the fishings slow there you're not very far from Caddo...

I'm originally from East Texas. Diana/Longview area to be exact. I've never yak fished Lake O the Pines, but I'm looking forward to taking my yak when I go to visit family. Lots of cool areas to Paddle out in the ETex area.

I fish the North end of Pines in my kayak fairly regular. I work in Lone Star so I will drop my kayak in after work.
If your are driving from Longview to Lone Star on Hwy 259, you will go over the lake and the first road on your right will be for the Lone Star boat ramp, the next road on your right is a county road that turns to gravel quickly. Take this county road and it will dead-end into an old water intake area that is a public access area. Drop your kayak in there and you can have some good fishing days. In September, October and early November, bass are feeding heavily on shad in this area. Some of the best topwater fishing I have experienced.

I'd love to make it out there, but if I was going to go that far I would probably just keep on trekking to Lake Caddo. I've been dying to check that lake out. What are your thoughts on the two if I was going to make a camping trip? Ever been to Caddo?

Caddo is beautiful and a great place for camping. But if you want bigger fish you need to go to pines, although you can catch plenty at caddo too.

What are your thoughts on the two if I was going to make a camping trip? Ever been to Caddo? All of the camping on Pines is on the South end of the lake which is not as favorable for kayak fishing. Bigger water and large coves. The North end of Pines where I fish is the main creek that feeds Pines. The water is smaller with lots of little coves and pockets (islands when the water level is higher). Caddo might be a better choice for camping and fishing. However, Daingerfield State Park is about 15 minutes North of the Pines access that I usually fish. Daingerfield has a great lake that you can fish and then for a change of pace you can drive down to Pines.

Johnsons Creek is a pretty good place to camp and there's some good fishing farther back in the coves.
