i used a buddys set up to drop shot the other day, it was a bait cast instead of spinning real. I decided i liked it much better. Do any of you use this set up for drop shot. If so what rod do you use for this. im thinking of buying a tfo tacticle series med to med/light. Whats your thoughts in the $150 range for the rod. I have a abu mgx reel im not using, so was going to use that

TFO rods don't feel right to me and they seem like they weight a lot.

In your price range, I love the BPS CarbonLite 7' Med Moderate Tip.

You're going to get as many opinions as there are rods, actions, lengths and brands. Talk to several of the Lake Fork hammers who fish the big money events on the lake with bait casting gear and a ds.

I could name a few, but I don't want to mess with their chi. Perhaps they'll PM some suggestions to you.

My opinion is that I hate doing it. I can fish that way and I catch fish but its way down on my list of ways I prefer to fish.

Now I will sit back and hear all the comments on I don't know what I'm missing and they catch huge fish every trip on it.... grin

Drop shots need extreme sensitivity IMO, so get something that you feel is good for you. Meaning something you can feel the fish sniff the bait LOL!!

G. Loomis DSR822C paired with the MGX spooled with 10-12 lb InvizX is IMO the best around. The Dobyns 702 is a close second.

There are probably more sensitive rods, but an All Star Topwater Special isn't a bad $50 rod for it... If it's windy and I feel like I HAVE to throw a drop shot I'll tie it on a bait caster every time. thumb

Try before you buy and shop around for the ideal setup. Good luck!

I've always fished my drop shot on a bait caster. I use a 6'6 md st croix premier with a shimano scorpion and 8lb test. Very accurate and quick pitching around docks and other structure. It's amazing when they won't touch anything else and you throw a DS in there and they hit it.

+2 on always having one tied on. Especially if u are having trouble filling out a limit!!!
