And not stick it in our a$$ by having a 6 night minimum stay. Is there any kind of law prohibiting this? It's basically price gouging.

Sam Rayburn Marina

I think most if not all of the privately owned parks are doing it.

There's no law against it, hotels get a bye. But in smaller towns, that's common practice when a large event is in town.

I grew up in San Angelo and knew a few people who worked at local hotels. When the rodeo was in town, every place had a 3-4 night minimum, and $40 a night room was goin for $200. They make 70% of their yearly income in one week. And somehow, it really is legal.

6 night minimum sure seems excessive. I know business is business, but there seems like there should be a limit.

If you all would like to stay at a really nice place....stay at Rayburn Country Resort and tell them that Bill & Barbara Long with Anglers Quest sent you and ask for the A/Q discount and they will fix you up. They do not have any kind of minimum night stay...

I agree that business is business but that is a pretty CS way to conduct business. It is nothing more than ripping off the people coming into town to participate in the event. I would be looking hard for somewhere else to stay even if I had to drive a ways.

This place has been booked full for a while now for this tournament. BUT they don't have a minimum number of nights stay.

No knowledge of this, but I understand the desire to maximize profits in the boonies when possible. Instead of a minimum, just apply "event rates"... double the typical rate for a "1-night" stay, and take 20% off for each additional night reserved. So reserve for 5 nights, it's the regular daily rate, reserve less than 5, you pay more per night, but don't have the minimum issue (until they book up of course, then you are still SOL). So they make more profit even on shorter stays, but aren't locking anyone out, and you can get the standard rate so long as you plan to stay longer.
