If you are using a spinning rod I recommend that you do not use Fluorocarbon for your main line. UNLESS you use a teeny black swivel about 4' above your dropshot rig. Fluoro and Spinning Reels on dropshots (especially vertical dropshotting) will twist beyond your wildest dreams!!!
Having said all that. Your line and diameter will be dependent on your lake and water clarity and how comfortable you feel with ULTRAlight line. You can start with 10lb mono or even 12lb Spiderwire Stealth Braid and maybe 8lb Fluoro leader. Seaguar Fluoro works good.

No straight mono is fine.
I like 30 lb braid to mono or fluoro leader personally. with braid you have no line twist.

10lb mono will work just fine. Also, you can use the old style Bass Casting sinkers with the brass eye. I have used the expensive tungsten and the others with the "line slip" eye but after loosing them and having to re-rig it is just cheaper to use the lead weights. The fish don't care. The VMC Spin Shot hooks work ok if you are not familiar with tying the palomar knot with your hook. If you use your hook make sure you run the tag line end BACK THROUGH THE EYE of the front (tip side) of the hook to make the hook stand out 90 deg from the line. Are you looking at vertical deepwater dropshot fishing or casting and dragging? OR BED FISHING????? bannana2

I will probably try all of the above.. vertical and casting. I have trouble fishing slow with T-rigs and I think this will help me fish plastics slower. I'm heading to fork tomorrow to give it a try.

You can use mono at the business end and you will catch some fish. But I promise, switching to a quailty, 6/8lb test flouro leader will double the amount of fish you will catch in clear to moderately clear water. No exaggeration here and this is especially true in high pressure situations. Truthfully, I have very little problem running straight flourocarbon, but every now and then it will twist, so taking the time to tie a leader to braid is usually worth your time.

There was a drop shot hook that you tied to a bend in the hook and threaded it down thru the eye with no knot. It was a great concept but the hook was to big for the small baits I like to drop shot I wish they would rethink them and bring them back. I think they were gamakatsu but not sure.

I run straight 10lb test Seagar Fluoro on all my spinning outfits....

But I only drop-shot once or twice a year.
