There's a spot on the river that is pretty deep, the water gets stagnant in that area. I always see fish coming up to the water and throwing some pretty big splashes. I've seen this in that spot for as long as I can remember...finally I just sat and watched for a while and to my surprise it was a bunch of carp and buff. nuts I know this because those suckers would jump smooth out of the water.

I'm curious whats going on when they are doing this? I bought some canned corn and sat for almost 2 hours without a bite fish ...but the whole time they were just jumping all around me. nannyboo Kind of a slap in the face hmmm

I fished one line on the bottom and the other was under a cork about 4ft.

I'm not a bit disappointed that I didn't catch fish thumb but it was just kind of funny that they were everywhere and nothing bit. Maybe their mind isn't on food noidea

Yeah. Whenever I'm spawning, I don't look for any extra cheeseburgers laying around.

Next time you see this happening, break up a loaf of bread and throw in on the surface. IF (and a big if) you see them coming to the surface and gulping some bread down, time to tie on some bread to a hook without a weight and see if you can catch one. wink

They do this all year round, always saw the same actions during duck season so I'm not sold on spawning as being the answer.

This works. I have done it myself at Blanco State Park. The carp were releatively small compared to what I catch in Austin though.

And that's as close to fly fishing for carp as I'll ever get. It is a fun way to catch em isn't it? smile
