Hey all

Still new to the board, I have only resided in Texas since last February. I currently live in Saginaw. Any lakes with decent Blue Gill populations near me, or within a 30 minute drive. Coming from the north Blue gills were everywhere but I have not caught one since moving to the state. Any helo would be appreciated.

Just about any body of water around you is going to be holding Gills. I would use Google Map to locate the bodies of water around you. It will show you creeks, ponds, lakes, and rivers in your area. You can also get the names of the water bodies and research em. Right now the Gills are fixing to spawn within the next two to four weeks. Once warmer weather sets in the fish will move under docks and structure. Tree lines will also start holding fish. Get you an ultra light and a box of night crawlers and let the fun began. I have have never fished in your area but you should have no problem at all in finding em. fish

Good luck and let us know how you do. Looking forward to more of those Dallas area reports. rockon There are also some very good anglers who live in the Dallas/Ft.Worth area who post here. Hopefully they can give some first hand information on some of those places to fish. cheers

There are actually a few good areas to fish here in Saginaw One is Marine creek lake you may have to hike a bit but it has given me some nice gills of various sizes, another is a creek that runs by Western Center that flows underneath 35 just park on the over hang parking at ghengis grill and from here you can actually look down and sight fish to see where you wanna put your baits when fishing. If you ever wanna meet up to ave me show you a few spots shoot me a PM and I'll try to help

Its not about how deep you can fish but by how you wiggle your worm

Summer time is right around the corner. The Sunfish really get active and stay active.

Ive ran into a similar problem. Moved from arlington where I was minutes from the lake to haltom city where I havent found any creeks for blue gill. When the summer months hit you are more than welcome to go gill fishing at arlinton with me. I have them dialed in there!

Hit the Fort Worth nature center. Lots of them in there. I use a fly rod with foam hoppers or bettis poppers and wear them out.

I hit Marine Creek today, water temp was only 55, with a south wind. No panfish at all, I tried jigs around the reeds in hope of a crappie or two, and mini night crawlers about a foot off the bottom. Not one panfish. I did manager two small large mouths, one 13 and 13 1/2.

there are more sunfish here than anywhere i have been up north
we have several species and sum even hybridize ....
they will get very active shallow in april and can be caught in just about any place that has water .....
65 degree water and up ...its on for the sunnies
all the city ponds , bigger lakes , creeks "with year round water" .....etc etc ...
if ya want really chunky actual bluegills you will have to tune it a bit .....
small assorted sunfish in large numbers are very easy though just about anywhere in texas
best of luck and welcome to the forum

They are real active in the shallows at night. I catch more perch/bluegill in many cast net than I do shad right now
