hmmm I tried some braided line not to long a go on my 12' jigging rod. I use a loop knot, and man the fish I was hangin'. But oh the fish I lost do to braking, it was braking in the bottom of the loop. I thought maybe it was bad line! Well my uncle uses it on his short rod 8' and has had the same line on now for close to 10 years (no kiddin') well he put it on his new z12' and had the same problems. Anyone have a clue as to why this happens

Not sure..but i can tell you i use braided on spinning gear primarily as i have lost way to many fish to breakage with mono...i use 20lb power pro braid and use the polomar knot straight to the jig or hook that i am using...the hook or jig will break before line breaks...unless i do a crappy tie which happens when im in a rush..lol...

I use 2/10 PowerPro with no problems at all. I just purcashed a spool of 1/5 PowerPro to see how it works. I also use both a double surgeons loop & the polomar knot????

I don't use braided line but have three buddies that do. They usually yank the structure out of the water when they get hung up and then we have to move on to another spot. They definitely don't have problems with break offs like you are describing and they lose a lot fewer jigs and don't re-spool as often either.

I have had loop knots with braid actually slip through eye on a jig. Pretty frustrating to hook a fish, think it broke, then bring up an empty loop. I couldn't figure out what was happening until I had a fish come undone as I was flipping it into the boat. Knot didn't break, and the jig was still in the fishes mouth. It was enough for me to stop tying loop knots with braid.

I use 10#/4# dia. Fireline almost exclusively. Never had a Palomar knot fail. Pulls Aberdeen hooks and most jigs loose without breaking. However, the thin diameter can sometimes slip through the eye gap if you let the line slide down that far and the gap isn't closed tightly enough..

Thought the line was sliding through, as well, but after a closer look, I noticed it was actually braking at the bottom of the loop. Will a kink cause it to brake

Braid is very tolerant of knots and kinks and such. Do to the increase in strength and smaller size than mono, I prefer 30# Power Pro. I never have issues with lines breaking.

If you have a problem with breaking, first I would check all your guides to see if there are any damages eyes which might be damaging the line. If the eyes aren't damaged, then I would toss the line and replace it.

Are you sure the knot is breaking or coming undone? I only use the Uni knot and the know never breaks. If I snag something and can't get it loose, I have to cut the line, because it never breaks...

Capt. I am sure I had fish brake off on the bank, jig still in their lip. It was the loop at the eye of the jig.

You can try running the line through the eye of the lure twice and then tying the knot.

On the heavier 2 ounce lures, I run through twice to take the pressure off the knot and balance it along the line.

I am still using Wally Marshall hi vis 6 and 8 lb line and a pulled tight Palomar knot so the jig hangs horizontal and don't loose jigs or lures even when I caught an 8 1/2 lb. green trout that pulled the boat about 40 yards until I got it to the boat.

Capt Craig's advice is sound....just for the record...when we get around to fishing together, I will show you my go to knot, and all I fish with is braid....I had that problem on some of my catfish rods a few years back...sure makes you mad the second time it happens in a row....so, yes there is hope!
