Good bait! I didn't use any last year but the previous two years I luckily never got skunked on it.

Just enough to cover the trebble hook but keep the points exposed. I would catch a ton of channels doing it this way

I grabbed one of my wife's weeders to use as a poker. Filed down the sharp edges and points. Same thing I use. Use a slip cork so you can adjust the depth of your bait. This is how I fish when targeting channels, it can be a lot of fun. Throw out some range cubes, give it about 20 minutes, no bites then move on. Punch bait only needs to stay on the hook for about 15 minutes any way.

If you put the bait on with your hands you will see a difference. Just bring a bar of lava soap and a rag. I used to use sticks, and finally said to heck with that. If I can cut up shad and hold slimy cats I can touch some punch bait.

As a kid I was the designated Catfish Charlie doughball maker for trotlining. I never figured out how to get that stink off after four runs a day. Punch bait made me a happy camper.

This time of year, here's the easy way to catch cats on punch bait:
1. Stay shallow, less than 5ft. Clearer the water, deeper the fish.
2. Go to the fish. I never use chum. I constantly move and dabble punch bait into cover in the shallows until I get a bite with bait setting for less than 30sec. Once I find a bite, anchor up and keep catching.
3. As soon as they shut off, move on. The bite isn't going to get any better ince they shut off, so go find another group.
4. Once you anchor up, use shad or perch and cast out the other side of the boat with a clicker on for Blue/Yellow cats.
This is all just my $.02, hope it helps someone.
