bluesea112, you know you brought up a good point about some of the other deserving folks that should get discounts, maybe we should call our reps, and demand some more discounts to certain civil workers. as far as going broke because of discounts to military, no way. the going broke is from miss-management of park and wildlife funds such as putting up millions of dollars of pipe all over the place and they are still doing it. paying for so-called park rangers that i never see do anything but drive around though the parks on tax payer dime, another reason, for some reason Austin won't release a whole bunch of money that belongs to the parks, so you can go on about parks going broke because of the military discounts, looks to me like some money is better than none. most the time parks have plenty of spaces to spare. that's all i have to say about this. by the way, visit a VA hospital sometime, you will not find to many empty beds.

there will be plenty of company up there i'm sure. that might help raise the water level though. good luck and watch for the sand bars upper part of river. i think i will stay in the steel creek area, not quite as crowded maybe.

I camped out there over the weekend. My god did they tag me on the fees. I took the camper and the boat so I had two trucks.
$20 a night for the camper and me another $2 per person per day $5 boat lauch fee each day we stayed. an extra fee for the extra truck used to pull the boat per day. The park is nice and clean and they had someone come every morning and clean out the trash cans and put on new bags. But they couldn't keep the bath rooms clean and it cost me right at $85 to stay Friday night Sat night and leave sunday morning. I paid $15 in boat launch fees when I could have gotten a pass from Corp. for $30 for a year. Also when camping at a corp park you don't have to pay a boat launch fee. Next time I'm camping at Kimbell. They need to come up with a package type deal. They are higher than the rest of the parks in the area to camp and then they slap all the fees on. Example if I'm camping I'm not doing it by myself so I would think more than one person would be included in the camping fee.
Fish were stacked up at Bee Mountain but they would't hit anything.

I camped at Cedar Hill State Park over the weekend and we got slammed with fees too. $30 a night for full hook up with the trailer, $5 per person per night entry fee for 4 people, $5 extra vehicle fee for 2 extra vehicles at the site. Ridiculous! I couldn't agree more about the corps parks. Much nicer campsites, much more laid back and friendlier IMO. I know the SP's are hurting and they're letting it be known with all of the fees!

that's what i've been commenting about. the corps parks are still fair and have discounts for vets and seniors. ham's park used to be a corps park that was built up with tax dollars and they gave it too another group that didn't accept the corps regulations and discounts. i can afford getting charged those hight prices, but i want use parks that do that. i think state parks don't give discounts either, but not 100% sure. if a group wants to take over a corps park, then they should accept their fees and regulations, not just make up their own. our tax dollars built these places.

i don't think i ever said the Corps funded the parks!!!!!!! go back and check. i said our tax dollars did, which there isn't much difference. yes, i live in Johnson co. if my memory is correct, it was a free park, then GD leased it for a long time, then the corps came in and put it in the condition it is in now. correct me if i'm wrong.

Don't ever worry about being corrected on this site. You will be corrected if your are wrong. Also be prepared to be corrected sometimes when you aren't wrong. Several on this site have knowledge just oozing out of their pores.
