I'm planning on getting a Winch, but I know there are a lot companies making good reels today. I want something with a slow retrieve and lots of torque.
like the man says...if you're swimming in the ocean and get bitten by a shark, its not a shark attack. You're in THEIR neighborhood. If you're at home in your shower, turn around and a shark is in there with you...THAT'S a shark attack

The new Lews BB1 5.1 ratio. Out of the box nothing will cast a crankbait further than this reel.

I have a gen 3 winch, don't like it as much as my 5.4 tourney pro's. Doesn't cast as good.
Haven't tried a new bb1 yet , but it might be a good one.
If I needed another 5.4 I'd get another 5.4 tourney pro

Well, I got a BB1, in 5.5:1. Man I really like this reel. It feels solid. I like the pull button plate release, how well the side plate seals shut. It has 12 lbs of drag! It holds plenty of line. It has micro click spool tension knob, and star drag. It has a swept crank, swept star drag, and big ole paddle knob. It's has smooth action to me. It casts great, and make this very low turbine engine sound that is just cool. It feels good in my palm. I haven't gotten it tuned in for super long casts yet, but I will.
I took it out today for the first time, and it worked like a champ. It was real windy, but I was getting my bait where I wanted it. The breaks on this thing seem to be intuitive. I don't think it has anything like the Calais DC, but it was very forgiving in the wind. It seemed to throw in some extra brakes when the wind gusted. I know my curado would have backlashed in some of the casts I was making today. So far, I really like this reel, but this was just day one. I hope I still feel the same in a year or two.
I've never had a low speed reel. I love the power it has. I'll never throw a crank on a high speed reel again.

winch 5:1, got one last yr and its way better than the curado 200b I have in the same gearing. winch can cast a mile if ya want it to and is very smooth on the retrieve.
