I'm going into take my 2 young boys and father in law out to Birch Creek this weekend. We'll be fishing from the bank. Any good spots you can share and what type of bait is best? I'll take both worms and minnows. I just want my boys to be able to catch something, being young and all, they get bored if there's not any action. I'd appreciate anyone's help.

Ben, good video as always. Will not miss those pelicans on foggy mornings on the lake. Lets just say they are slow to get up.
My favorite time to catch WB has always been right now. Wish that I was there loading up the big freezer again.

I haven't fished Birch Creek Park in a couple of years, but I'm sure its probably the same. We always fished the point to the right of the boat ramp or the point on the other side of the park just below the restrooms. We have always done better with Shad and Ghost (pencil) minnows vs. any other bait. Good luck!

Well we went out to Pecan lake and it was not good at all I hooked into two nice fish and got hung up BOTH times and the other guy that was with me caught a nice hybrid.Caught a couple of small cats and that was about it.The shad have moved shallow so the white bass should be moving shallow early to feed off of them soon.I will say Pecan lake is a really nice area just watch out for huge stumps when wade fishing I almost fell twice!

The lake Bryan crappie have just now begun to move shallow. It seems late by the calendar but not by the moon phase. I looked back over my records and it seems that the third full moon of the year is when the crappie spawning peaks... I think we hit them a little too hard last year and might need to fish a different part of the lake to find better numbers and size. The few folks that fish often usually at the bend in the channel have done OK so far as the crappie seem to hold on the hump until they move shallow. I don't think they ran the power plant much if at all this last winter so the channel has no current and is probably a little behind temperature wise. I've been out 6 times over the last six weeks and have caught about ten crappie and several bass but only 4 keepers.

Sometime in the next week or so I'm gonna give the Yegua one more good thrashing for whites and crappie. Probably drag the yak down the trail to the low water crossing below Newmans Bottom.

Hi Pete. I think I met you last weekends at Birch creek. I was dragging minno and you told me where the shads are...

This current time frame last year, there were lots of fish and you can fishing with lure (1/4 roadrunner with 3-4" power bait white worm). This year it does not seem to byte on lure yet. I learned that if it does not byte on lure, you will need to fish with ghost minnor. You will have to walk into deep water and then cast. This way you will get your bait into a deeper water and wait. As you said kids do not like to wait. They want excitement. My two daughter the same. I let them sit in the tent when the fish byte I asked them to reel in the fish. They had good time.

Your boys gave me minnow. I tried them later in the evening and I got a few white bass. So, look like the fish byte on minnow as well.

If you live close by the lake, I suggest you to keep trying. When you start seeing a lot of people fishing with lure (wading), you know fish are there and your kids will have some fun.

I will be heading to the lake again on the coming weekends. I'm not giving up yet. For me any days is good at the lake even I don't catch anything. But for the past few weeks, though I don't catch that many I always has luch to catch a few white bass.

Keep it up Pete.
