To those of you that said his eyes prove he isn't venomous. That only proves true here in North America, and then for anything other that the coral snake. There are lots of venomous snakes around the world with ROUND PUPILS, but the only ones with ROUND PUPILS here in the states are the coral snake. Where is the even wronger buzzer here? I live in the City of Rockwall, and I found a snake in my back yard last year and fell under the same falsehood that all venomous snakes (but coral snakes) had cat eyes also...I was WRONG...and animal control was even floored by what we found...I had a 3 foot water mocassin with round eyes 10 feet from my back door. And that snake is dead...has been since last year now. It was misidentified then. All poisonous snakes in the United states minus the coral snake have cat eyes. Its fact, plain and simple.

Negative Ghostrider...it was identified by myself and the animal control guy when we chopped it's head off with a shovel in my back yard and stuck it's fangs out with my pocket knife. Full on water mocassin with round pupils. Here is a picture of it...

Thanks everyone for the inputs. Timwins31 is correct, I have no intention of messing with one or letting it bite me to find out which one of you guys are correct. I just know we have a wide variety of knowledge on here and was just trying to get some help. thank again 60-70lbs of C4, this will pretty much "prep" the area, then maybe a nice big Cobra Gunship to finish things up, then I would call Chuck Norris so he could just look things over for u and u should be good to go after that........Hope this helps

Full on water mocassin with round pupils. Here is a picture of it... You pulled teeth from a Nerodia erythogaster, not fangs. This is another Nerodia erythogaster my son was handling in the Old Sabine Bottom Wildlife Management Area last week. I don't let my son free handle a venomous snakes. As far as allowing animal control set the example for snake identification, I am not sure they are the most educated of individuals. This video illustrates the point. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/k-Fp7flAWMA" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Back to the original snake. This is a Platyceps ventromaculatus They are harmless, but you (jsplinter) were correct in assuming it could have been dangerous. There are a few species you don't want to play with over there and many of them are mimics of potentially dangerous species.

So they have teeth? I have never seen a fang in person until this incident, so they did look much thinner than expected...they actually looked like 3/4" fish ribs in the front of it's mouth.
