Conditions: Wind 10mph N/NE, mostly sunny, light chop less than a foot, surface temp 58F.

Launched out of Robertson around 5pm. Marked fish directly east of the marina 1/2mi and about 800yds south of 30, 25-28 FOW. Posted up for about 30 min, moved approx 100yds north after no activity and fished another 30 min with nothing. Ran north of 30 and east about 200yds off Harbor Bay entrance. Observed some gulls working and mallards feeding along a scumline so we set up for a drift. Drifted 200yds or so south working shad-swimbaits throughout the water column. Girlfriend hooks up, no, its a snag. [censored] its on the downwind side, I knew I shoulda told her to cast upwind. Hands the rod to me (all knowing un-snag-master), pop, pop, pop, yep its hung up, [censored] now its under the boat, quick around the back and under the skeg, ok, whew! Put more tension on, huh, it feels like its a branch or something because its coming up slow. Tug. TUUUUG. The rod bows hard. Nope, this is a fish. A decent fish. I announce this new piece of information to which she replies "give me my rod back.". Ok, slow down, we're drifting south at about 1.5 and have about 5 minutes of drift left before we'll be aground on I-30. This Ugly Stick combo I bought on clearance as her "first rod" seems a bit, um, overmatched... Ok, I'll have her drop the hook, buy us some time while I get this drag adjusted from bicycle brakes to 737 hydraulics, and then we'll hand off. Ok, anchors away, trade spots, "here, you go babe, nice and easy" handoff the rod annnnnnnd gone.

We ran south of 30 and around the park point to fish the creek bed after arguing for ten minutes who lost it (I ultimately took the fall, par for the course really). She ended up picking up one striper to get the skunk out of the boat and we headed for the barn about dark. Great evening with my favorite fishing pal, and she now has a Walter to keep the fire lit. Can't wait to head out again!
