Well, I gave up catfishing to learn how to catch crappie. Even bought Ernest's video and all the crappie gear. Was raised on LL, so I've got alot of local knowledge and almost always catch. Went out on LL this morning (first light) and the skunk got me, haha. Fished northern coves out of the wind on minnows and jigs (Hickory Creek park, Arrowhead park & Queens point). Stayed in less than 10 foot of water and varied the depth, movement (slight bumps to absolutely still), color (red & white, chartruesse, black & chartruesse, etc) and still ended up with an empty livewell. Starting to think it's time to go back to the whisker-fish. Am I just whining over it being one of those days, or am I missing something?

lower that cork to 8 inches above the minnow and try to bump it on bottom! you have to go where the crappie ARE not where they USED TO BE!

I was on the water at 7:30, but didn't get set up with pole in the water until 8:15 or so. Spent too much time looking at my new graph when i should've been fishing.

bite was over at first lite for me ....
missed about 15 due to my old eyes .....
hooked 8 .....
lost 1 ....
probably should have started earlier .....
8 inches under the float in a foot to 18 inches a water
and yes i had a skunk jack with me also in the dark .....
when they posture up ....stay at least 10 foot away
if the wind is in favor of the skunk that distance gets much farther
started ketchen about an hour before first lite ...
and it took me an hour or so to figure out how to ketchem

Mr. Ernest, do you think they went out to 12+ FOW after 8:30? Curious about your thoughts. Thanks in advance.

I'm not Mr. Ernest but if they aren't in close they must be out a ways and harder to catch if they just ate breakfast.

That skunk followed me to Grapevine this evening. I've got a few excuses but no matter how you slice it I got skunked!

Side note: fished near bass fishing guys, we worked over the same section of water I caught bass in the spot and they didn't.
