Mornin' fellas. I have banked fished my whole life. I have had a "duck boat"(go devil) for the last 2 years and have tried to fish out of it but the only thing I could really do was jug up in creeks. I have recently gotten a bass tracker and am ready to really take these kitties serious as I can now fish open water and things that really wasnt easy to do with my duck boat.

With that said I went out saturday (with a few tips from some nice guys) and didnt do well at all. I only caught 1 chanel cat. I did do some chumming and use sure shot and cut shad. I am unsure if I am really fishing the right spots or if I am really fishing right LOL. Any who my question is what is the best way to speed up my learning curve so that I can really start having better luck.

With this new boat (well new to me) my wife is wanting to start fishing with me more and I want to put her on a good amount of fish (she we t out with me on sat. she had fun but I would like her to catch more)

Sorry for long post and THANX in advance for any tips/info.

I agree its worth it. For the amouny of knowledge you can gain with the right guide, $275 isny bad. Especially if you consider what it would cost you to go out on your own for 20 trips trying to learn for yourself.

Get a fish finder and start learning the bottom fishing off points, near creek mouths and deep water ledges can all yield good amount of fish just have to locate the spots and give it a try but ya really cant go wrong dropping a bait near a creek mouth for channels

Its not about how deep you can fish but by how you wiggle your worm

I think you have all the right bait.
Chum 3-4 spots FIRST at various depths and locations not too far apart 100-500 yards apart. Remember those spots. Spring shallow, as shallow as your boat will get you 2-3'.Catfish love to get in bushes and trees throw your bait close to trees and bushes. And you can try drops in water depth as well.
Chum your various spots then return to spot #1 tie your boat or anchor so you do not move around much. We always tried to position boat with wind at our back because it made casting dip baits easier so they stay on the hook. Spend about 30 minutes fishing spot #1. We always tried to not drop things in boat or make allot of boat noise when fishing shallow.
If you don't get bit after 30 minutes move on to your other locations in order of chummed.
This little bit of info came from fishing south Texas lakes we have trees to tie to which always made it easier. If you can find where the birds roost all night(Cormorants or water turkeys). If you fish under the birds early in the AM you will have some fun the catfish really like to be under their roost.
Good Luck
