Interesting new engine which usually would mean they would move the idea of the engine to the pickup segment and so on. Eight speed tranny as expected as well.

To get these numbers it requires premium gas, it will be interesting to see a pickup version running on regular octane to see the numbers on that.

Either way no surprise, late to the party and playing catchup as always.

If they roll it out in pickups I would expect them to do it in there delayed slow fashion... starting on the Escalades and eventually to the pickups. All while Ford usually does the opposite by putting it straight on the vehicles people who want it and sell it like hot cakes then eventually to the premium brands. Ones is the sales leader the other isn't... you think GM would learn something by now. We will see.

It can run on regular, they just put that to get those higher #'s, which by the time they put it to a truck apllication they should sell it as regular octane.

Ford recommends running premium on the Ecoboost too. It can run on 87 though although it won't have the same power when under a load. The ping sensor will retard timing if it senses detonation so performance will suffer. You won't know it but its still more desirable to run premium when pulling a trailer or in hot weather.

Cool had not herd that yet. I know gm says to run premium in their 6.2 also to get the started figures out of it, but I bet few people do, same with the eco.

SOOOOO, is the increased gas milage worth the offset in price from 87 octane to 92~3 octane? Sounds like it might be a wash.

I would bet the MPG difference is more negative than a wash with premium costing 10-20 cents a gallon more than regular.

I also think the switch between regular and premium is more of a power figure differencem, horspower and torque. Most of the time your running the engine its not running at peak power and I doubt there is much if any fuel milleage difference between the two unless running balls to the wall.
