I think Mr. Wiggles has it right. Think of all the laborers you see in the summer putting on roofs and cutting grass. Long sleeve shirts. Something from Columbia Sports Wear that is UV protected would probably work well.

I'm a big guy.....I mean B-I-G. What tips can yall offer to help me keep cool while bass fishing out in the heat? Same here.... 1. Buy you some long sleeve loose fitting tournament shirts...the ones that are vented with a shoulder flap 2. Get some loose fitting cotton long pants. I know both of these seem strange, but there is a reason the Arabs where long loose fitting clothes (other than their ignorance ) 3. Keep a couple of old towels in the ice chest, roll them up length-wise and put them around your neck. Trade them out as they warm up. I also wear a cap with flap that covers up my neck. 4. Drink lots of H20 and PowerAid.

Hey Streak, I'm 5'8" and about 160 soaking wet, but what Wiggles and Steve Pine said works for me. I do, however, subscribe to the long-distance hiker adage that "cotton kills" - so I go with the long-sleeve, light-colored synthetic, vented fishing shirts and pants (Columbia, Magellan, World-Wide Sportsman, etc.) in nylon, polyester blends or polypropylene, they wick away moisture so much better than cotton does. Same for my head (hat, cap, big bill or brim) and feet (socks), too. I love the comfort of cotton, but it uncomfortable in the extreme heat. Just my $.02,

I agree with Localanger on this one, fishing is much better in November. Otherwise,, the iced towel around your neck will keep your head cool. Remember to stay well hydrated, ( alcohol , even beer is a bad idea in the heat ) good luck MO

I'm all about drinking water when I'm out on the lake....even night tourneys this time of year! But I do think I'll throw some towels in the chest and go with some long sleeve shirts! There may be something to that long sleeve shirt thing. I bought some sandals and started wearing them this year, and I swear my feet get H O T out in the sun. But, before I wore the sandals, I'd wear sneakers and didn't have that problem...

I know it sounds funny, but stop wearing a hat. Your body uses your head for convection and if you cover it, you'll keep in the heat. I stopped wearing hats during the day and I can definitely tell the difference.

Sorry Jig, I ain't buying that. #1, covering your head with a hat will help retain moisture, which works as an evaporitive cooler. #2, not covering your skin is asking for a severe case of skin cancer later down the road. That will cut your fishing days short most definitely.

Streak, Have you tried using those blue jell type freezer blocks? We used to put the smaller ones in little fanny packs and position them over the base of the spine. While you're on the water you can keep fresh ones in your cooler. Dry, cool and you can keep your water bottles cool too.

Make ya some underdrawers outa aluminum foil...fill with crushed dry ice upon arriving at the lake. Carve yourself a hat out of an ice cold watermelon and do the same with a pair of cold cantelopes to use as shoes instead. Then strap whirly-gigs on your back (your choice of style) to fan you in the breese. Lastly have your plastic surgeon implant pop-up water misters ( once again, you decide where ya want em.) You will be not only cool and comfortable...but also the King of Fashion on the waterfront.....Trust Me!
If it get's really hot make yerself a pontoon boat out of a chest freezer. If done right you can just have arm and pole windows as well as sight slots. Kind of a cold fish blind.

WarEagle Boats have a pretty novel idea, their Tomahawk 962 model comes with a "cool mist" system built in! http://www.wareagleboats.com/boats/detail.asp?id=31 It'd be a pretty cool idea for Texas.
