Found this guy in our tent over here in Kuwait. The closest we can come up with is a blunt-nosed viper. any of you snake experts have any other guesses?

Im not a herpetologist but based on the location (Kuwait) and image you provided, I would guess its a Desert False Cobra ( Malpolon moilensis ), also known as an Arabian rear-fanged snake, Arabian Montpellier snake, Hooded Montpellier snake, or Moila snake.

If so, its a mildly venomous rear-fanged serpent but not normally considered lethal to humans. That said I wouldnt want to find one in my tent but I would take it over most rodents. Regarding rear-fanged venomous snakes, Ive read that all venomous snakes started off with rear-fangs but some evolved to have front fangs.

When it comes to cat like snake eyes, theres a common misconception that all venomous snakes have elliptical pupils but thats a false teaching, often from well-meaning mentors that just didnt know any better. The truth is coral snakes found in the USA, and some of the most venomous snakes in the world, including, cobras, mambas, krait, fierce, and the eastern brown snake all have round pupils. On the other hand, anacondas, boas, and pythons are all non-venomous but have elliptical pupils.

In general literature beginning with the first good book, and no Im not referring to Genesis, but The Epic of Gilgamesh, has portrayed serpents in a fearful and negative light. Learning to appreciate the serpent only comes with time and good snake boots. Over the years Ive come to realize that city folk that journey afield and routinely kill snakes without a second thought have never had rodents eat the wiring from the tractor, truck, or Piper Cub. Dont get me started about what rats can do to a vintage Airstream or a secluded fishing cabin in the woods. Indeed, it takes some time before a person can naturally come to appreciate the serpent and realize that perhaps they serve a purpose in the Great Spirits master plan after all. Enough naturalist speak for now, I have to log off and get back to my latest re-wiring project...

To those of you that said his eyes prove he isn't venomous. That only proves true here in North America, and then for anything other that the coral snake. There are lots of venomous snakes around the world with ROUND PUPILS, but the only ones with ROUND PUPILS here in the states are the coral snake.

I would never give advice on a snake in a foriegn country. I'm not an advocate of killing even venomous snakes here in the states, but overseas might be a different story.

The only reason I said his eyes say he doesn't look dangerous is because the snake looks like something trying to impersonate a viper. I'm also pretty familiar with how almost all the elapidae snakes look and it isn't one.

And don't lose sight of the fact that this is a fishing forum. I really doubt the guy is going to let the snake bite him now because a few of us don't think its dangerous.

These snake threads are usually 90% speculation and jokes anyway.

Thanks everyone for the inputs. Timwins31 is correct, I have no intention of messing with one or letting it bite me to find out which one of you guys are correct. I just know we have a wide variety of knowledge on here and was just trying to get some help. thank again

Where is the even wronger buzzer here?

I live in the City of Rockwall, and I found a snake in my back yard last year and fell under the same falsehood that all venomous snakes (but coral snakes) had cat eyes also...I was WRONG...and animal control was even floored by what we found...I had a 3 foot water mocassin with round eyes 10 feet from my back door.

And that snake is dead...has been since last year now.
