Alright so I work at academy and I get a discount so I was wondering what gear ratio should I get for a shimano? The reel would be used for flounder, trout, and some reds. And i am going to use it for gulp shrimp with jig head and also for live shrimp under popping cork. Please help!!!! Thanks in advance!!!!

if you rinse it and re-lube after use, it should be fine, shimano makes a high quality product

For gear ratios I like 6.2:1

5:1 is too slow, and I find 7:1 is too fast (feels unnatural to reel slow enough for what I feel is "my" normal fishing speed).

One idea is to try one of your buddy's reels before you spend the dough. Just don't skimp, get a good reel to start.

Haven't tried the Daiwa Coastal's, I'm sure they're fine products but I know my Shimanos have never let me down.
