Getting ready to buy one or the other. Would like to hear from owners of each. Dont really need si. I will be using it for striper, catfish and crappie. That being said what do yall think?

I have a 998 and a 788 at the console and a 958 and 798 at the bow.
The SI is a good hunting tool. It would prove useful for hunting down stripers or checking out brush along the banks for crappie. The DI is great for parking over a spot or looking down into trees.
I haven't used the 800 series so I'm not sure how everything looks on its screen. Having the 900 series screen is great. Now I run split screen on the 900s and full screen on the 700s. Works well for me.
What do you have now and where are you putting the next one?

I would take Side Imaging Unit...You'll be amazed what it can for you. Big Reason...Coverage Area, Coverage Area, Coverage Area.

This video explains coverages of different sonars

I would go with the SI unit then if you only have one. That screen should be big enough to get you the detail you will need.
If your "pos" still works good then keep it for 2D sonar and you can use the 898 full screen for SI.
