Just swapped stock bearings for orange seals and it cast horrible. When I cast it makes a horrid screaming noise and essentially stops at 20 feet every cast. Anybody seen this or know the cure?

Did you oil the bearings before you installed them? All of my Boca's came dry and I out a drop of oil in them before I installed them. Just pry up the orange ring on one side and oil them and the ring will just push back into place.

Yup dry. All I have laying around is ardent supreme oil. Might have to give it a shot because this isn't going to work as is

They don't need to be "swimming" in oil. Just one drop is plenty. I use Quantum Hot sauce and I'm going to try Yellow Rocket Fuel oil when I get a chance.

Everything I've read indicates you can run them dry without any trouble. The oil will quieten the sound of the bearings, but isn't required for them to run properly. Personally, I oiled mine with Boca's oil. One small drop.
I would post this in the Rod & Reels section. There are some reel repair guys down there that can give you some good direction on what the problem may be.

Thanks guys, a drop fixed it! I've also read they advise against hot sauce. Said it can eat away at the orange seals.

I actually pull the orange seals off and throw them away. Seems like they cast better without them being on. You will just have to perform routine maintenance on them to keep them clean but it only takes about 10 minutes or so per reel.

I have had the rubber seal move into the bearing and slow them down. They claim you can run them dry but the noise would drive me crazy. The hot sauce gums up in my opinion.

Per Shawns advice I no longer use the Quantum Hot Sauce. Switched over to Yellow Rocket fuel. All the orange seals on my Boca bearings have been removed also.
