The only trick I've learned is to keep them from getting hung to begin with! LOL! Spend some time learning how fast they fall, count them down to the depth you are wanting to fish and get to work. If you are needing to make contact with the rocks to get a reaction from the fish, I don't know what to tell you. I'll be curious to what others have to say here too....

You have to learn the drop rate and right when its just about to hit bottom jerk it back up. Thats what I do around trees and stuff on the bottom. Lost quite a few myself before I got it down. Still lose some but not near as many. The main thing is dont let it rest on the bottom. It will slide down in between all the rocks.

when fishing the more costly spoons, i fish braided line on fork and then u just have to pull it out, sometimes u will have to wrap ur line on the boat and use big motor to "get er undone".

If you get hung up get your boat directly over your lure and shake it softly. Use the weight of the spoon to help get the hook out. If your hung up in fishing line.... Best of luck! Haha

when i fish for whites we use slads, sort of like fullter spoons just heaver and less action, we use the same technique.i would say just dont let it stay on the bottom if its rocky, when we go "slabbin" we let if fall on some what slack line just enough to give it action but still enough tension to feel the bottom, right when it touches pull it of the bottom loose less that way.

I'm not aware of any good tricks to keep them from getting hung-up. I carry a 12" piece of PVC Sch 40 1" pipe to wrap in the line - doesn't screw up the line and USUALLY pulls the spoon out without cutting hands.

Remove the treble hook and replace with an off set wide gap single hook. Add a fluke and you are now ready to fish with very few hang ups. I've fished this rig in heavy timber and seldom get snagged. If you use a fluke jr it doesn't change the action of the spoon enough to be detectable.

Just get over the top of the spoon and shake it loose. The weight off the spoon bouncing above the treble will usually knock it loose.
Invest in a lure retreiver. It will pay for itself in a short time.

Not trying to be a smarty pants, but carry a Lure Retriever on an old Zebco. Wrap the line that is stuck and drop it down. In the old days when Dad taught me to use a Spark Plug for a stuck lure, it worked great.

Check out the hook system for the SHIMANO BUTTERFLY JIG. I have used these hook systems on jigs and large spoons fishing rocks since they were on the market.

If your not getting hung with the spoon you are probably fishing it in the wrong areas.
