Get stocking foot waders. Just get some oversized rubber boots for walking the water(you want over sized boots so you can get them off easily). When you get to the water you will want some fins that either slip on or clip on at the ankles. Dick's has plenty of options. I have a compressor to air mine up. Yes life jacket.

I am light enough to float above water and have customized mine (oars, ping pong paddles, kayak paddles/motor) over the years so I don't need the hassle of waders/fins. This helpful forum shows one way I haven't tried yet, see post #21 http://www.bigfishtackle.com/forum/Float...t_tube_P515385/

I keep my main tube aired up in my garage, carry in my car, and use a small 10" pump high volume pump only for minor adjustments when I get to water, also carry the pump on the tube (google K pump but there are cheaper versions). This helps with surprise leaks when I air up on location and have to cancel trip. Inflation pressure (about 1/2" dent in when push with thumb on body) and adjustments are critical for comfort/support, also there will be some pressure loss when tube hits cold water, so you have to start with a slightly higher pressure. Airhead high volume electric pumps will get you inflated quickly IF you can't carry your tube already inflated from your garage. Sometimes I use ratchet straps to attach a slightly deflated tube to roof, since sun's heat can cause overpressure.

I like the mouth/manual pull/ auto inflatable life jackets which are so comfortable you don't know they're on (Bass Pro). You can convert these to a bulky type by inflating partially by mouth when you want extra security for known danger going over rapids, high winds, etc..
