I haven't been up to Ray Roberts in a couple years, but thought I'd try a mixed bag or crappie thursday. Any reports? Thanks. BTW as my name implies I don't know squat about crappie fishing other then drop a jig or minnow by brush or under a bridge and hope they're home so any tips are appreciated.

Haven't tried to post any pictures on here yet... so, here goes!
But first...
Cleaned 18 Sunday... the largest, lower left 1.75 lbs.
Interesting that only about 6 of them were female... there were some big males.
Eight foot down in 19 FOW, red/white tube and slab bandit sour grape. Didn't catch a single fish on minnows... maybe they were bad minnows??
Caught them all within an hour of sundown, then it was over... The eggs in the females were not bloody looking and IMHO they're still a week or two away from partying on RayBob.

Actually, I have a houseboat @ RR marina... I caught these in my slip. But, I thought the depth and jig combinations might be helpful to others who have more mobility than I do with a 52' houseboat. I see a lot of crappie and bass fishemen doing well in the Marina cove... just sayin'....
tight lines!

Jim,

Where is the marina? I have only been to RR once at Johnson Branch and don't recall seeing a marina

Any suggestions for shore fisherman at RR? I've got a 4yo itching to catch his first crappie but we do not have a boat. Any good shoreline spots?

Sorry for the late reply, I've been awayfrom the house for a while today.
The Marina is on the Southwest side of the lake... google maps foe 1299 Marina Circle, Sanger and you will see it.
As far as places to fish from the shore on RR and many other places around DFW, take a look at this article that is on The Crappie Anglers of Texas website by the great Ernest Paty and Guy Skinner. Lots of places listed and good tips.
