I was pleasnatly surprised at my succes particularly on Saturday with 25-30mph winds - I was able to get two checks on Saturday and one more on Sunday. All of my money fish were caught on a ridge in 8-12 ft of the water but on the south shoreline surpringly. I did lose another money fish in what was probably 18 inches of water on a north bank retaining wall. I dont think the spawn was fully on on the south half of the lake.

I havent fished Conroe in 2+ years, and have a really good chance of getting down there this week to kill a day or two. Any help would be appreciated.

You have to remember that it is the equivalent of about 900 days of fishing.

Anytime you put 600+ anglers on a lake there is gonna be some big fish caught !! I enjoyed this Tourny and look forward to next year this was the first time I fished and think it couldn't have been any better and I didn't draw a check but did catch alot of 2-3.5 lb fish.

If you haven't fished a oakly event u should give it a try good times

I look forward to this event each year as it is one of my favorites of the entire tour. Over the past few years I have had the opportunity to meet many of you and the event is one big party at "Papa's on the Lake". We always see those BIG CONROE BASS and this event didn't disappoint. The weather was a challenge for sure, blew so hard on Saturday our stage podium started breaking apart, then the storm that hit right at launch brought some of the strongest north wind I have ever experienced.

Had an amazing time and cannot wait until we return!!

. I know that north wind and the rain that come with it blew me off my gps trail while headed out before daylight. I had trouble seeing and ended up in middle of lake in some swells I hope to never see again, lol

Conroe is relatively small, but with the bulkheads, it will turn plain mean in a heartbeat. I ran up north about 12:00 Saturday when it was starting to get rough, then back south around 2:30. It was rough, but we never got wet.

Saw a couple folks take a bath. I hope they had a bar of soap & towel in the boat.

Last April Sealy put 3000+ anglers on Rayburn and the top 5 bass weighed in were 10.83, 10.24, 8.14, 7.85 and 7.81 respectively.

This March we had right at 600 anglers on Conroe and the top 5 bass were 10.41, 10.19, 8.58, 8.49 and 8.32 respectively.

Say what you want to about Lake Conroe but in Feb, March and April there aren't many lakes in the state that can stack up to it. We've run the tournament there for 15 years and it's taken an average of at least 9lbs to win.

You can't argue with the stats.

My point was more along the lines that if they had not touched the grass it probably would have taken a 8+ to win any hour and probably at least a 5.5+ to get in the money.

Conroe always has a pretty good average weight per bass.

You could argue with anyone about anything... grin

Here's the stats from Spring of 2011 and Fall of 2011. The surprise was two 10's in September.

Conroe is still a great fishery, and one of the best Big Bass lakes in Texas. It is also probably one of the most challenging because the lack of fish holding habitat.

I have had a lot of outstanding days on conroe, but it will Humble even the best of fisherman in a heartbeat.
