I am fairly new to fishing and I am still having a hard time identifying my catfish. With the absence of the spots I can't tell if this cat is Blue or Channel. The color of its skin on the head looks blue to me but the color of its body especially going through its tail looks like like channel to me. I tried to count the rays in the anal fin and its 27.

I would like to know your opinion on this.

Thanks in advance.

The anal fin on channels are more rounded. Blues are pretty much a straight edge

I'd say it's a blue.

Thanks guys!

It weighs a little shy of 10 pounds. I got it from LL by the bank using cut atlantic croaker and squid for bait.

This is how you tell for sure, once you see two side by side it's easy to see the difference (heck of a lot easier than telling a baby crappie from a baby sunfish lol)

I dont catfish, but tell me about this slot? I have heard it but dont what it is. Is it like all fish from 10 to 15 lbs have to be released or something like that?

Maybe others dont too.

30 to 45 inches for blue cats must be released. 1 over 45".

On Lewisville, Waco and RC the slot is 30 to 45 inches which means fish under thirty inches can be kept and one over 45 inches. A fish close to ten lbs is pretty close if not in the slot.
The regs are in the handbook they give you when you buy your license.
