I was there a week ago and guys i could not believe how things had changed. Last year the first day we were down there, our 3 boats had 182 fish. This year the same boats plus 1, at the same time 0f the year, we had approx. 35 in 4 days. I am completely baffled! I cannot believe that this good of fishery could change that much in just one year.

Welcome to dramatic low water where the fish pull out and suspend and don't feed

They go into self conservation mode

Think about it. Say 100 5 plus pounders are killed/slaughtered per day on Falcon 365 days a year. Multiply that by 3 years and you have a 100K of big dead bass with nasty water levels assisting poor spawns.

^^^^^^ This.

When went out with a guide last year we did really well but I remember The guide pointing to his fish finder a lot and saying see all those bass stacked up in the channel. It was wild tons of fish suspended out in deeper water.

Time will tell. But I'm in the camp that they've pulled-back in the main channel and are suspending and scattered.

I'm evidence of why Falcon was so awesome the last few years. Tons of big fish were hanging where they were easy to find and easy to catch. I'm an ok stick but certainly nothing special. Even so, I could pull-up on just about any point, rock pile, or hump and throw just about anything and load the boat with 5 pound plus fish just about every trip. Those same type spots now are not holding biting fish.

If there are guys catching fish now I'd say it's because they're very talented bass fisherman, not because the fish are easy to catch.

My vote is the fish ain't there. You can't even catch 10 to 12 inch bank runners.

I certainly don't know but lakes cycle. I don't think a large amount of bass in Falcon are dead. I struggle on Fork half the days. Pressure, water levels, grass, weather, seasons, timing, disease, cycles, ME. It's a great lake and it will be fine.

Falcon was tough last weekend. JPost is right on. Fish just were not biting in the points and brushy rocky bottoms we typically look for...

Really? Men who's livelihood depends on clients visiting a thriving fishery would get on a public forum and tell you Falcon is badly injured.....and it will be years before it's back ...depending on water levels? NOPE

And I don't blaim them either .....time will tell.

Fiction
Falcon is in a down cycle due to several factors. It will come back. Just needs a rest from pressure, some water and a couple of good spawns. Is not the first time nor the last.

Well that kinda suks I been planning my trip to Falcon Lake now for months. I'm up here in beautiful Montana and the lake I fish is the Tongue Reservoir but ya see its been frozen now for 4 months and I haven't caught a bass since October.
A man's gotta catch a few bass now and then.
I ain't no pro but I crossed a few eyes my biggest being 15.2lb (released)(clear Lake, Calif) and I'm still going down to Falcon Lake and give 'em hell.
About now just to be able to cast a bait and have it hit water and sink (instead of ice)will be just what an OlBoy with cabin fever needs.
Fishing is off at Falcon Lake you say?
First week of April I will find out. :o)

...didn't sound good...

I'm not one to call people out but John Johnston is the biggest Johnson out there.
What guide reported this?
Im the third to post on this thread and I guarantee you between the three of us we would know if anyone had seen this type of event. More less another guide. While I also guarantee fishing is dramatically tougher these days than 1,2,3,4,5,6 years back in no way is it to a level of 100's of fish floating around. I have not even seen 10 floaters in the lake in that time period if you count out the Mexican nets.
We have lost towards 20 foot of water since last year and that effects things. There have been thousands of big fish 6 plus pounders heads cut off by fisherman but not 100's of thousands as some may try too convince you to believe.
I know of a 46 pound bag on March 3rd and the same person had another 11 today. A 30 plus pound bag is not out of the question here but much more difficult to achieve this year.
Many fish have gotten smart and adjusted there feed times with several others pushing out and hanging out suspended in middle of the lake/river.
Falcon lake is a lot tougher but there has been no giant fish kill as reported through this blog.
Me, nor Jay, Tommy or anyone else could hide something that relevant from this site. There are 100's off TFF members that have been here in that timeframe and not one report to even come close to collaborating this completely fabricated story....
I'm out...
Tight lines to all tomorrow.
