I remember several years back maybe 10 or 12 there was an item on the ballot that was voted on. The option was to increase the liscense fees and regristration fees for fishing, hunting and boat tags. That money was suppose to go Parks and Wildlife. Well as I remember back around 2008 Gov. Perry decided that he needed that money elsewhere. If I am wrong please excuse my Ignorance.

David I think you are right but I am old and blond and I might not be right. I don't mind paying for a license if the money go back to the Texas parks and wildlife

From the 2011 TPWD Budget. Looks like they run about $98-$113 million shy of being self-funded. TPWD generates significant revenues from the sale of various Parks and Wildlife products and services, such as hunting and fishing licenses and state park entrance and facility use fees. These revenues help fund a sizable amount of TPWDs budget, but they are not sufficient to cover all funding needs. As a result, TPWD is funded from a combination of general revenue, general revenue-dedicated, federal and other funds. Figure 4 depicts the major funding sources for the Department. http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/publications/pwdpubs/media/pwd_rp_a0900_0679_02_11.pdf

OK here is the deal. I vote for for people that have my best interest in mind. When something is allocated in a manner other than specified I make sure I call my representative and express my concerns. I don't go around making accusations on parties that I am not affiliated with, without having any facts. I know a lot of people don't vote and don't have a clue how to call a congressman or any elected official. Yet they still complain when something doesent go their way. On average for every one person the contacts an elected official there are a hundred that don't. Gather as much info as you can an try to help Tpwd.

The beautiful things of life will come to an end unless we can pass them on to our children and teach them the value these beautiful things have to us...
In the last 70+ years the good folks that came before us saw fit to build and support TPWD and grow it into what we have today. We cannot change the past or even the recent trends moving the youth away from life outdoors. Prosperity is a double edged sword and we as a society are experiencing the fallout from years of speculative and wasteful spending on a lifestyle built on borrowed money and time. Downturns are part of the natural cycle but sometimes we push things to artificial highs that can only crash and burn before the process can be corrected... I just hope that "all of life" as we know it isn't one of those things we have flown too high with no safe landing in sight...

TPWD is one of the few government agencies that I respect and am willing to support above and beyond the minimum. I gladly buy a Park Pass even though I don't use it enough and always get the SuperCombo license even if I don't have plans for the Salt. It's money well spent IMO.

It may already be too late for our youth to want or have a desire to spend time out in nature. They are too busy with their phones and video games than to have any interest in the outdoors. Sadly both parents work nowdays to give them those Ipods and video games and out of their hair. I hate to say that but it's true!
Just one more cast!

I believe that these parks should stay open. I mean park are the only way that families can get together with nature.
Fishing is fun and adictive, but always stay safe. Happy Fishing! How do you add a photo...

I work for the State of Texas, Texas Department of State Health Services as an IT Specialist V. I am proud to have served my fellow Texans each day for the past 15 years. Does that make me an "F'n Government A hole?"

Doug, No you are not the F'n anything.. but when I read comments like Allen's I see it as frustration that has no cure because the cause is within all of us and how we no longer participate as citizens but only as consumers.
