Being a state employee I see us facing more and more funding cuts for state agencies across the board each fiscal year. But it looks like our parks and wildlife folks are going to be faced with the most severe cuts of all the agencies. This is bad news for all Texans, whether sportsmen, fishermen, or just weekend campers, and for generations to come. Texas State Parks May Face Closures

As long as the state keeps mis-using all of the money they collect. I have heard that less than 50% of those license fees for fishing and hunting go back to the TP&W.

No much of a surprise that Bastrop park/ state golf course and some nearby homes constructed of flammable materials built under unmanaged and uncleared trees in a natural renewable forest can catch on fire over the years.
Some of the 7 parks on the closure list of our 91 parks could possibly close with little notice by the public as they are not being utilized by but a very few. Putting limited funds into popular parks where they can do the most good does not seem to be an unreasonable proposition.
Oil and gas revenues are already called for and well serve Texans.
Good luck on your job, I was once a state employee too and well know the bi-annual budget cycle fears and rumors.

I don't think the Tea Party spent us into this mess...
Social programs are taking all the money away from TPW.

I know that after spending over a million $'s on renovations the state offered to give the city of Daingerfield ownership of the State Park, the city turned them down

I've been hearing about TPWD parks closing due to funding for 20 years or so. I suspect everyone has to raise a ruckus with their reps to keep it from happening. Same with school funding, the sky is falling every 2 to 4 years.

I understand his comment about teabaggers. I see it every day. They want parks, police, teachers, fire dept. etc. but oh yea these guys earn too much , What we pay their retirement,,, oh no we cant do that!!!! parks get how much? oh no.....

Wake up MERICA. Are you sure you have your facts correct? I was not aware that the Tea Party wanted 0 spending and taxing. I was under the impression that they wanted responsible spending and to stop all of the government waste. But I am not a member of the Tea Party so I really don't know. As far as your comment regarding government employees, again I am not an expert, but if there isn't enough money to pay for all of the government services, than something has to give. I don't think the Tea Party has any problem with government employees, more likely they have a problem with the Unions. In my opinion, there is a problem with an elected official negotiating with a union that was a major contributor to the elected official getting elected. Probably a conflict in interest, thus the tax payers probably do not get the best deal from the elected official that receives money from the union, who will not contribute to the elected official if the elected official does not give them what they want. IMHO that just seems to be a huge conflict of interest. GMB

the problem is not the tea party the problem is money that Texas takes in for state parks go else where. We have billions in rainy day fund and they could use some of that money to keep state parks up tp date. I know some teaparty members and they want low taxes not no taxes. Something that America was founded on. I think Gov. Perry is part of the probelm. I could go on but want.

Wake up MERICA. Wake up indeed. Push away from the media and post a link to that plan you speak of.
