not lately but I made a scouting trip to the steps on dec. 23 to see how the landscape changed since I was last there. downstream from the steps a fallen tree has a portion of the river partially blocked, im sure fish can swim under or through it though. Some of the banks have slid into the river due to the runoff underneath making areas of bank slide into the water. The gravel bar is still in the same condition as before minus that identifying log being there. There is a deep bend that looks good about 2/3 a mile downstream from the steps. Saw 2 snakes while hiking around. I spent about 1/2 my time fishing, 1/2 hiking. I didnt catch anything but that was back in december. After the next warm spell a few might make their ways up, if not some crappie might make their way up but its probably still too early. I feel this year will be good with the rain weve gotten, there is enough water for them to move up anytime theyre ready.

Reports I heard Whites have been real slow for most, at the steps an even farther up river towards Lake...

But with the recent good rain, last night-early this morning...It should pick-up, hopefully by Mid-week?... thumb

I went yesterday with some of my baseball teamates, we caught six all together or should i say they caught six, because i didnt get a bite, I threw road runners, my white little jigs that i make and i did real good with them last year at the Llano. There is somehting about that river that I just dont have luck with. But anyway there were some good stringers yesterday, one guy and his son caught a full limit around the first bend right below the steps. I couldnt make out what they were using but i think they were road runners , and then at the hole up river alittle ways some guys had stringers of 7, and 11 and they were using flies and jigs. It should be pretty good this week, if anyone has any tips on what to use and how to use it can yall please share with me, I would love to do good there. Im going to the Llano on Friday, any reports or if they are up there yet? Thanks and tight lines!

Can`t catch`em if your lines ain`t in the water!

Thanks for the Report...

May try the Steps Wednesday...
Last year,I did best using a 1/16th oz. red jig-head with a 2" chartruese-silver glitter curly-tail grub...And a 1/8th oz. red jig-head with a 3" chartruese-silver glitter curly-tail grub...Slow retrieve bouncing off bottom...
But river minnows are the best IMO if can catch some... thumb

Never fished Llano River, so can't help you there...But Good Luck!!

May try tomorrow, can you wade anywhere around the steps or is it too deep?

REPEAT AFTER ME: R-O-0-S-T-E-R T-A-I-L-S! If they don't bite them, one of two things: (1)They are not gonna bite anything else, or (2)There aren't any fish there at all.

First trip this past saturday, only an hour and a half, 16 GOODUNS,albeit males, and probably had 8-10 more that hit, ran, and spit hook.

I got a box for the sandie run that has NOTHING BUT rooster tails in it, and I NEVER COME HOME EMPTY HANDED.

I will be in Elgin on Wed, will drive right by the steps and the river in Circleville, may have to wet a line.

size is critical: 1/6th as in one sixth.

Real desperate measure for me would be to kick back to a 1/8th, as in one eighth oz. Color is irrelevant! They inhale them all.

Line just as critical, nothing lighter than 4 lb, nothing heavier than 6.
