1)Left out plug to many times 2) Trolling motor down too many times 3)forgot to add oil to reservoir and got stranded at night on Ray Roberts in early February with just me and buddy 4)Knew that batteries were getting old but had new electronics and wanted to go check them out - got stranded again ( dead batteries) -thankfully it was in the summer on Fork so I wasn't cold. 5)Drove to lake and found daughters cat in the boat- debated leaving it at the ramp but she loved that cat so I had to drive it back home.

Man, I've done all of these many times over, Years ago while striper fishing in the California delta, we were cruising back to the ramp trying to beat nightfall in my 21 foot cruiser. A great big coastguard cutter was coming down the channel. I decided to cut in behind him at full throttle. The wake put us airborne. My buddy had been sitting on the motor housing drinking a beer. I can still picture him suspended upside down holding that bottle with little bubbles of beer all around him. We came down pretty hard. Heres one no one has mentioned. My buddy left his trolling motor plugged in and put the cover on his boat. The weight of the cover mashed the foot control switch and the motor ran until the batteries went dead. Got so hot it melted his trolling motor mounting brackett.

My first boat was an old Glastron (like 50's), it would take on water so every once in a while we would pull the plug and run wide open to get the water out (who needs bilge pumps). No problems until your brother gases it while you have the plug sitting on the edge. We got some dirty looks blowing through the no wake zone that day. He flies up drops me off, flies back out and drives until I have the trailer down. Flies through again and straight on the trailer. Game warden who had been called after first fly by was pretty understanding. Stupid part is we never put a pump in that boat....just bought an extra plug.

I left the troller motor down and bent the shaft. Left a fish In the live well for 4 days. And still had water in it. Couldn't figure out why my motor wouldn't crank. And the kills witch was off. And left the plug out once.

I forgot I left my drain plug out (only once) the water fried my waterproof on-board charger.
I also drove off once leaving the boat plugged in. After about 10 miles I noticed something orange following my boat. My 15 foot extension cord was now about 6 feet.
My buddy left his external chargers plugged in (two of them) when we left his house buy the time we got to the lake one was gone and the other was all beat up.

About thirty years ago I took my not long after, ex wife, on a fishing honeymoon. We were catching fish, stayed too long with storm from &%#& approaching. Winds, waves and rain as we head across main part of small lake in TadPole 2 plastic boat overpowered by 7 1/2 hp Sears Gamefisher, WOT.lol. Make it across main body of lake by only what can be described as an act of god. Parallel shore line as boulders are volkswagon sized and no place to keep from getting pounded to smithereens. Think we have it made when we get to wind protected dam until wind changes and we are dead into it again. Trolling motor battery gets washed from front to back seat area as I'm sitting on transom to keep bow up. See game warden watching from his car on highground with binoculars as lightning and thunder cracking every few seconds all around. Car and trailer parked in what was dry bed of spillway when we started the day. Wife screaming in horror with every flash and crack of lightning as water too deep for boat to stay on trailer...about 3 inches of standing water in floorboard of car with lake rising fast. She pulls car to shallows as I ride trailer pulling boat. Almost get washed off low water crossing slab before being greeted by Game Warden who had made a mad dash to get across creek slab to other side after seeing we make it to land. My wife is in shock, but not so much that she knows she's mad at me. My only response on long ride home was, "did you hear how impressed the game warden was with my boating skills?" Clutch burns out on car on the drive home.

Canadian fishing trip, got in right at dark and was being maulled by mosquitos. Tied boat to dock, plugged in and headed back to cabin. Came down next morning and saw one of my rods was on the trolling motor "gas" pedal and realized it ran all night while trying to charge. Needless to say I had a trolling motor until about 12 each day. Bummer.
Left plug out a few times. Left trolling motor down a few times. Ran out of gas twice!!!
Oh, one big one I forgot. On the way to the lake and trying to figure out why the nose of my boat looked like it was touching my truck. Got our and realized I did not put the pin in for my swing away tongue. Luckily did not damage anything, but had to use a socket wrench to hold the tongue until I ordered new pins (plural because I got a backup).

Was fishing regionals on the Miss River in Fort Madison, IA and the second day of the tourney was the last one to leave the cabin and left both life jackets on the back deck of the boat along with my rain gear and wallet and drove to the hotel to pick up my Co-Angler to find out that I have no wallet for gas money or life jackets!! Talk about a start to a dismal day on the Shi*** Mississippi.

Buddy (rookie) backs my new truck in to load boat and smashes mirror off on the ramp sign post as others are yelling STOP! He heard Bob. $150.
Other buddy backs trailer in not quite deep enough (@ night) windows up radio on- I get the boat halfway up and need trailer to come back a little. I'm waving him to back in more he thinks I'm waving go. Starts out and can't hear me screaming stop. Boat's pointed at the stars and skeg is scraping the ramp before he notices. Have to climb up to the nose to get the boat to settle back on the trailer so we can get it back in the water. Almost dropped the boat on the ramp.
Brother and I fishing Ouachita in a modified 10' Jon boat with 18 Hp on the back. Had added lots of floatation to it with swivel seats and front steering wheel. Thing would fly. Or at least we thought it did. Bro lost his hat while we were cruising and taps me on the shoulder. I made a wide circle and said grab it on the way by.. we both lean over. Him to grab. Me to watch. Edge of boat grabs and sendsnboth of us flying out of the boat as it does anfighter jet rollover. Dang thing never ran again.

Dumb stuff I did? Let my wife clean the boat! She Armour-Al'ed every surface in the boat! Next day I had a buddy sitting in the back of the boat. We got ready to move to another spot and as he came down, I turned aroud to see him do a perfect full flip and a half from the back deck to the bottom of the boat. Boom!!! He looked up at me and said, What the hell was that!?!?!?!?" I said, "Lisa and her Amour-Al!" We laughed all afternoon about his Olympic dive!

I think this is one of the funniest threads I've ever seen, it would be funnier tho if I hadn't done almost all these things myself like left front strap on boat with my deaf father ready to pull me out, lucky I had motor up. Love watching stuff fly out the back of the boat when I'm doin 70 on the interstate, leaky boat with tiller running in storm and pulling plug out to drain and sticking it back in, diving into 40 degree water after $150 spinning combo with $250 cell phone in my pocket.
I think we should extend this thread to dumbest things we've ever seen done like waiting to launch behind some rich guy with a new pontoon that's never put it in the water before. 45 minutes I kid you not. How mad can ya get when your itchin to fish!!!
