Well, after experiencing the "awesomeness" of Falcon in March 2012 I didn't believe all the recent reports of doom and gloom. Six of us (all pretty solid sticks) traveled down from Kansas determined to prove we were capable of taming Falcon. We were wrong. We fished pre-spawn, spawn and post-spawn patterns with minimal results. The lake looks great....plenty of cover, plenty of baitfish....we fished from inches of water in the backs of spawning coves/cuts to humps and points in 20+ foot and could only catch a few fish randomly with no discernible pattern at all. We even downsized to finesse baits for a while and still no change. I caught 5 fish in 2.5 days of hard fishing (4 dinks and a 5 pndr) and my backseater had one bite during the entire time. Considering the 40 MPH winds and cold front forecast for Tuesday we cut our trip off 4 days short and came home with our tails betwixt our legs. The water temps were 61-67. Water was stained in the upper end of the lake and fairly clear mid-lake (Tiger). We talked to locals who say the lake just went dead in October....and we talked to plenty other anglers who were equally as frustrated--several hadn't had bites in multiple days of fishing. I sure hope it bounces back soon as it was truly a fantasy fishing paradise before October! Right now I'd say it's as tough as any lake I've been on--and I fished Ray Roberts for 15 years! Will definitely be interesting to see how the Elites fare. On a very positive note we stayed at the Bed & Bass with Rick Turner for the second consecutive year. His place is set up great for fisherman and the food is off the charts good....I highly recommend it.

Sorry to hear what is going on at Falcon. Strange to see it drop so suddenly. I could understand a tapering off. It was receiving a lot of fishing pressure. Hopefully the bass have just repositioned to less pressured structure. Would not surprise me to find out they are suspending in open water. This is the pattern for a lot of the very heavily pressured lakes in the Midwest.

with the slow bites isn't it likely to just turn on one of these days? all those fish have to be around still and get hungry.

Never know I guess, but look at Choke Canyon, after several amazing years the lake just about died. They go there and shock it and see all kinds of good sized healthy fish but getting them to bite an artificial seems to be near impossible for many.

Personally, I don't think it's a fishing pressure, gill net or filet issue....sounds like the fishing went from fantastic to poor overnight. If it were any of the obvious reasons the drop off would have been slow, the fish wouldn't stop biting lake-wide the same week. I think there is something going on biologically with the fish or chemically with the lake. No fish kill has been documented, but could they have a virus that has them suspended out in 50 foot of water in a dormant state? Maybe the Zeta's put some meth chemicals in the lake and the fish are all tweaked out!! Who knows but it will be interesting to see what happens. I'm sure someone will figure out what has happened.

We considered changing lakes but the reports were poor at Amistad, didn't really want to fight the crowds at Fork and felt like it was too cold and early for Ray Roberts. We decided on a "make up trip" in June to Fork or Falcon if it's back.

Stayed with Rick back in July, nice place and decent food. Glad we went in July, had a good trip. Fished 3 days and I had one DD, couple of 9's and 5 more in the 6-7lb range along with several smaller fish.

This time last year (and even in Jan and Feb) DD fish were a dime a dozen. I recall bs'ing with approx. a dozen a guys in front of the hotel we were staying at around our boats and the stories of DD fish were non stop. I pulled 3 fish out of one tree on back to back casts that were 9lbs or better. Had a guy with me that had never been to Falcon catch a 8+ out of the back of my boat. For whatever reason that is not happening this year and we had greater water level fluctuations last year than this year. Its all weird to me.

I have fished in Iowa, Wyoming, Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Arkansas and Texas for the past 25 years of my life and I have never ever seen that tough or worse of fishing in any of those places. It was like a bad nightmare. Thank goodness for good buddies and good company but I've never experienced anything like that fishing wise in my life. I pray that the Elite guys whack them because the town of Zapata really needs them to or alot of business and good people there are going to be in a world of hurt.

Wow this is very dissapointing to hear. I am a college student and have a trip planned with my dad and a bunch of friends there for April. I saved up a lot of money over the summer and I sure hope I didn't save all that money for no reason. I am going to be very disappointed if the fishing is like what everyone is saying it is
