Do any of you have a formula or method on making a fish chum to put in a bait trap for catching bait fish?

I use mullet, old mullet, smash it with a hammer to make it a kind of paste. Wrap it in cheese cloth. If i have shrimp I will add some of that too. Just smash it all together. Dont need much for small fish traps.

We just put fish heads and guts from cleaning our catch. Works wonderful.

Back on the other side of the Gulf when I had it kind of all together, my buddy and I jointly owned a grinder, we put everything fishy in it, and let it feed into a 5 gallon bucket, add some menhaden oil to taste, or smell, and put in to big Zip Lock bags and freeze. We used the mesh orange bags for chum bags (we got them cheap from the distributor)

For bait or crab traps, we would double grind it, then do the mix, scoop into knee highs and freeze. We even made a very small size for minnow traps.

...I pick up a bag of sinking Catfish food from the feed store just down the road every year. For Shrimp I just mix the stuff up in a bucket of mud and make balls out of it then throw it into an area that I mark. Come back in a few hours and use the cast net to load up.
For bait fish just put the feed in a mesh bag inside of a trap and catch all the Piggy Perch you want to fill the live well if we are headed offshore.

...so good it tastes like it died screaming!
