I need to put a keel guard on the 21' center console that I bought. It's a used boat and has a bunch of scratches and chips in it.

So, I looked at these online at Bass Pro and they are way more expensive than I thought. I believe the 21' version was around $170. Does this sound about right to ya'll?

And, the strip for a 21' boat was longer than I expected- something like 7-8'. Do I really need to buy one that is that long?

Ok, thanks.

Sounds like they are pretty easy to install. Any installation tips?

Take a look at KeelShield. They offer a variety of colors, and a lifetime warranty against adhesion and abrassion for the life of the product. They are a family owned, AMERICAN company that produces an outstanding product line. I am a little bias, but you can't beat a quality product.

Also, check the 3 inches on each side of the keel line from the bow eye to approximately 8 feet down the keel to make sure it is in good shape with not many giff's or really deep scratches. If there are some it is best to fix those first prior to putting a keel guard on. Otherwise the bonding is compromised and it will eventually fail with water and dirt working their way underneath the guard. Just a suggestion. Takes about 2 hours to put one on. Make sure you get the bonding activator on the entire area to be bonded. Also, make sure it is on straight. Once you push it on, you can't pull it off ! Just did mine. Did a red 7 foot Keel guard. Looks awesome ! Keelshield's are awesome too and will work just as well.

I had one and it lasted about 15 years. Backing off the beach did loosen up the back side a little. Some 3M 4200 took care of that.

Wait till you have to remove a glue on version, then you will wish you had a spray on.
