I have an HDS-10 Gen 2 at the console and an HDS-7 Gen 1 on the front deck. They are linked together with ethernet thru a HD Structure Scan Mondule with LSS-2. I have the following questions. I'm sure there will be more.

1. Since both units have a built in GPS do you leave them on their own or set them up to go off one GPS? If you have them on one, how do you do it? Because I tried and it said no signal.
2. What is your typical EPE. Mine sitting in the driveway was 29'. I thought that it would be more accurate than that.
3. Also my HDS10 was seeming to creep, like I was moving for about 10 minutes while just sitting in the driveway.
4. Do you Enable WAAS/EGNOS/MSAS for GPS? What does this really mean?
5. I recorded a sonar scan while on the lake Sunday. However, when I play it back, it doesn't look like what I recorded. Its almost a complete screen of clutter. Do you adjust sensitivity on the playback, or did I set something wrong on the initial record?
6. What Settings do you use for Sonar. Sensitivity, Surface Clutter, etc?
7. Is there anything else I need to make sure is set correctly?

Sorry for the long read, but I'm trying to learn. I bought the bigger graph and structure scan to learn to fish deep water better. I've been a bank beater since I started bass fishing. I'm planning on getting a guide trip with a Lowrance user (Tom Reddington), but he suggested waiting till June, because of his schedule and the fish positions this time of year.

Thanks,

BNB

{I run both of my hds units off an LGC 4000 antenna with the puck near the trolling motor transducer.}

2. What is your typical EPE. Mine sitting in the driveway was 29'. I thought that it would be more accurate than that.
{I've never checked it but been told 20' was average. Some days mine is spot on and others off. I think maybe big brother has something to do with this but I'm not sure.}

4. Do you Enable WAAS/EGNOS/MSAS for GPS? What does this really mean?
{No. If WAAS is present the unit will pick it up and if not present it may not lock on trying to find WAAS.}

5. I recorded a sonar scan while on the lake Sunday. However, when I play it back, it doesn't look like what I recorded. Its almost a complete screen of clutter. Do you adjust sensitivity on the playback, or did I set something wrong on the initial record?
{When you record be sure to record all channels that way you can see side and down as well as 2d. Yes you need to chang the sens sometimes as well as the color line.}
(I rarely watch mine on the computer. I make short recordings and watch them in the boat vis the simulator. That way I can see the map, 2d, side and down all at the same time. If I see something that needs a wpt, I can mark it right there and it will go in the file and show up on the map.)

6. What Settings do you use for Sonar. Sensitivity, Surface Clutter, etc?
{I run my sens in the mid to upper 80s. I set my unit on fresh water mode. I usually set upper and lower limits so I don't have any surface clutter.} A lot of the time I fish with side and down and don't even use 2d.

Great advice from Dayne. Here are my thoughts on your questions. Congrats on owning a great product!

1. The internal antennas on the Lowrance HDS units are very good. In your situation I would place each unit using its own antenna, but not that big of a deal if you have it reading off of the one that is on all the time.
2. One advantage with an external antenna is it will give you less error on positioning.
3. Normal
4. NO
5. Look at a great new feature Lowrance has called Insight Genesis. You can check it out on their website www.lowrance.com
6. I run mine on Auto most of the time the way it came out of the box.
7. Tom Reddington is a great choice and person for Fork.
