I wanted to thank all of the folks on the various forums that gave me words of encouragement & sent prayers above when I was diagnosed & began this journey! We are truly blessed by you all! I wanted to share the fantastic news we received.
After past several months of treatment as part of a clinical trial at MD Anderson Cancer Center, then a radical prostatectomy via the Da Vinci robotic system at MDACC, recovery back at home & some post surgery complications, we flew back to Houston recently for my first follow up appointments.
The post surgery pathology showed that even though the cancer was in both sides and was upgraded from T1 to T2, the tumors were confined to the prostate! The 18 lymph nodes & seminal vessicles they took were also clear!
My first post surgery PSA was >.01, which they said means no detectable cancer! We go back every 3 months for appointments & PSA. We want it stay at >.01 from now on & we are confident that is His plan!
We are thankful to our Heaveny Father to have been led to MD Anderson & that we were blessed with wonderful doctors, nurses, & staff. Particularly my Surgical Oncologist/Urologist, Dr Louis Pisters. A physician that will humble themselves before God & pray with his patients & before surgery earns my respect & confidence.
I can't wait to get out & make a few casts!

Congratulations Doug!
MD Anderson is a great place with a lot of amazing Physicians/Surgeons; they have saved a lot of people with care that just can't be matched a lot of other places.
I'm glad you are doing well and hope you can get out on the water soon!

Congratulations!
I'm on pins and needles right. I had a PSA done last month and it was 6. Went to the VA, had another one done it was a 5. This is up from a 2 three years ago.
Did a test to make sure I didn't have an infection and I don't. So now I'm waiting for an appointment with Urologist.
I'm 52 years old and my father died of prostate cancer.
Needless to say I'm more than a bit worried.

Needless to say I'm more than a bit worried. First let me say THANK YOU for your service to our nation! If there is anyway you can go to MD Anderson, I recommend it. The Genitourinary Cancer Clinic in the Mays building in Houston is top notch. I understand your being on pins & needles. Its tough waiting for results, or the next steps, whatever they may be. If you need or want to ask questions or just talk about your particular situation, feel free to PM me & I'll be glad to help out any way I can.

I live in Portland OR right now. Most likely if I need surgery it will be done at OHSU which is right next to the VA hospital here. I may be picking your brain as my situation progresses.
Thanks.

Congratulations! I had surgery, 25 radiation treatments and 12 chemo treatments at M D Anderson in 2012. First scan was clear in January. Next one is in April. M D Anderson is a gift from God. What wonderful people. Fishing Towakoni tomorrow.
God Bless you,
Richard
