Glad to hear they are still biting, banker. Hopefully, today I will get a chance to try fishing those brush piles that I sank a couple of weeks ago on Meadow. I mean, new (to me) boat, brush piles that were holding fish 1 hour after sinking them, and a sunny day, I can't think of a reason not to go fishing. Sure my wife can think of a reason for me not to go...

Thanks for the replies. cheers "Roofish": Only keeping some if I am going to eat fish that night or the next night. For the most part I just love catching em and releasing em. The ones I have kept are simply OUTSTANDING and go GREAT with an Ice cold Shiner Bock Beer. thumb "Elcoyote": I have only fished Meadow Lake once for Crappie and did not do that well. I have heard from anglers in the area that Meadow is a super place for Crappie. I may start working that area a little more. Also these clear blue skies don't help the bite one bit. I have seen em shout down completely once that sun comes out with no cloud cover. Will be doing some night fishing for sure. fish

Banker-

I took your advice from this thread as well as from one a couple of weeks back, went out to meadow today (did t graph any fish on my brush piles), and found a laydown in 18 fow that had 6 or 7 fish on it (man, I love side scan). I swung around, picked up the crappie rod, dropped down to about 9', and THUMP! A nice fat 13" crappie! She got hung up in a branch for about 20 seconds, but I got her out. I think that since I used my net to get her out of the tree, I scared off the rest of the slabs in the tree, but I repeated that on several other laydowns. I never landed another crappie, but I did get a bonus 2.5# bass. All in all, I am ecstatic, considering that prior to today, I had never caught a crappie on a jig. Thanks for the help! If you ever want to ride in my backseat on one of our area lakes, give me a shout.

Thanks guys for the replies. This is the very first time I have fished for Crappie and it has been a hit and miss all winter long. In other words learning as I go. Mike-"USMC_GY" and Fred "Rionator" have been two great anglers to learn from. They can really fish those jigs and sliders. Mike has been a Crappie angler for awhile and has nailed some super fish as well. As for me I still have a long way to go about learning the patterns of a great fish. fish

"Elcoyote": I love fishing Placid and Meadow. I have caught some nice fish off of both lakes. Placid can also be very difficult. As for the Crappie it has been good since Mid December. Glad you were able to locate some. There are some very nice slabs on both lakes. The fish were holding to one spot all through late December through Mid February. Now they are moving a lot more and are getting much harder to find. Will PM you my cell number and we can stay in touch. Good luck on your future trips. Keep looking for em and you will find em. hooked

Yes. Placid and Meadow lake. Seems that the fish have moved off of the main lake and are in the Channels. Still in the 12 to 20 feet of water range. Got a feeling they are fixing to spawn very soon.

Looks like a couple of windy days will be coming up this week. Also hopefully a storm front will make it here in South Texas and give us some much needed rain down here. Again thanks guys for the all the replies. cheers
