Fished the Yegua out of the kayak for a few hours today, late afternoon/early evening. Put in at Nails Creek State Park and fought the North wind all the way to the mouth of the creek. I found some Crappie, but they were mostly small. Ended the evening with 2 Catfish, 1 Crappie, and 1 keeper White Bass. I caught another small male White Bass so there's still a few of them in the creek. The bite started to turn on right as the sun was going down.

Fished yesterday aft , wind was horrible too bad for me to put the boat in , Ended up doing so long rodding in the main lake , Managed Two 22 inch hybrids , one channel cat and one 8 inch white. I had to spend almost an hour chasing bait to end up with a dozen pencil minnows. On the upside my 10 dollar , flea market waders don't leak lol

Yeah, that wind was bad. When I was at the fish cleaning station there were a couple guys who had just cleaned up on the catfish. They either really knew what they were doing or the catfishing is really good right now. Probably both. They had boats.

I'll be probing the banks of the channel in and around the rocks. I suspect the last week of cooler temps will delay what would otherwise be the first weekend of early starters. If the fish are there I'll be surprised! Something about this year feels funny, but I can't put my finger on just what it is..

Lake Bryan was a bust... not one bump and cold as heck.. but that didn't stop some triathletes from swimming across the lake to start their race.. those are some cold crazy fitness nuts!

Wow! That would have been a cold swim this morning.

I just looked at the forecast for tomorrow and I'm half tempted to fish the Yegua. Winds out of the South and high of 70. Or I may stick with my original plan and fish closer to home.

I made my way down the trail from the WMA on CR125 to hit Nails Creek first. The creek is low and muddy but on the first cast I hooked up with a nice whitebass. I'm thinking this is gonna be one of those days we dream about... Nope... not even another bump all the way past the trailway bridge.

Back to the car and off to Newmans bottom.. To my surprise only one truck was in the parking lot and they had just arrived. I worked my way downstream way past the big pipes looking for anything bass or crappie like.. one sunfish...

Nice weather but poor fishing...

March 9th is the next tour of the Yegua and maybe the last until it rains. The lake has dropped another inch or two making getting into the Yegua tricky. I can do it but it's like threading a needle... a muddy needle.. The fishing really needs to improve too or you will find me fishing elsewhere...
