In Texas, if I fish with a guide, are we allowed to keep my limit and his limit each day?

So a guide isn't allowed to keep his limit of fish? I don't understand the difference to a couple of buddies going and keeping their limit and a guide and client doing the same.

DISCLAIMER: I'm not asking about this for myself, trying to settle a disagreement with a friend.

I think you understand perfectly . you just dont want to agree with it. If a guide gives his fish to the client, it is more along the lines of selling fish, because it is persuading clients to fish with him or her. I totally agree with this law, and will never give clients more than thier daily bag limit. Guides who do break the law, are screwing thier fellow guides and should be reported to the game warden.

years ago the boat could keep the guides limit also , they changed that law a while back.
it is for sure against the law to keep the guides limit these days from what i know ....
of course it seems like it could be confusing ....
when i ketch with my bud who is a guide and we DONT pay our own friend is it still against the law because he has a guide license ?
i wonder how that works ....?
as long as you dont have paying clients then you can keep them or something ?
i am sure a guide here can give us the straight skinny on that part of it

they way I understand it, if you are on a charter, (a paid trip), you cannot give the clients your fish.

also as lot of guides who break the law, do not realize, that a game warden can pull over a client, and check his icechest. If he finds 75 fish, and theres 2 people in the truck, who do you think he is going to go after? because the clients will surely tell who the guide was. If a guide has to give his fish to the client, to make them happy , then that is a greedy client, and will expect an icechest of fish every time. a monster is created.
if the client is only interested in a meat haul, Tilapia is cheap, why not just go to HEB and get a bunch?

The first few times I hired a guide on the coast (with a 5 fish limit) it was allowed and all the guides routinely gave their clients their fish, as a matter of courtesy...the last time I hired a coastal guide, he told me right up front about the law change and not to ask for any deviation...It was never an issue with me, but apparently, some folks did expect to receive the guides fish. I always figured I could catch my own fish...Always have, why worry about such issues?

The guide is not allowed to keep his limit, only the customer's limit may be acquired.

I didn't mean to pee in anybody's Post Toasties. I just wanted to know the law. I don't plan to hire a guide to Crappie fish with anyway. I was just asking for a friend. Thanks for the clairification.

This may have been done to prevent guides from giving "their limit" to multiple groups on the same day. If a guide had two or three trips booked on the same day and gave their limit of fish away on each trip (which was usually the case back in the day) they were surpassing their individual daily bag limit.
