I owned one back in the day. Very smooth ride but not the fastest boat. Top end on mine was maybe 62. Very stable though.

i agree with brett. been in many of those older rangers. fish flat, run pretty good. wet wet wet in the rough stuff. very tough boat. worth the money if the price is right. still not a better ranger than a well setup 361V with 8" plate.

I have a 96. It is somewhat slow out of the hole but gets going as fast as I really need it to (55-60, 175 Merc). I really like the boat though. One complaint for me is the rod box. I can't get any rods over 7ft inside. It does have good mojo, lots of big girls have come out of the water to say hello. Good luck

I had a 1995 491VS - single console version - I wish I still had it. Most of them are underpowered mine had a 200 Erude on it, which me & the ethanol blew up, in the rebuild process I tweaked it some, it was probably putting out 250hp after the rebuild and it really woke up the hull. The ride actually was dry because I could get some bow lift, best speed I got was 67 on GPS.I think they need at least a 225 & a 6" plate to amke them ride as they should. 250 is better if it's rated for that.
It fished great and was tough. The livewells are not great in any of the 4 series boats IMO seemed like Was always having valve trouble, but the storage space ride and overall quality made up for that.
