I'm starting the tournamnet season off right with an intermittent shut down of keypad and motor. 06'Ranger w/yamaha HPDI 225. While in gear or on plane everything shuts off like someone disconnected the battery, at that time no LED's will come back on but it seems to reset and will start fire back up in a couple minutes. Doesn't seem to happen at idle out of gear. Checked all positive and negative connections to the motor, battery, switchbox and keypad and can't find anything loose. Does anyone know where to go form here? Hate to just throw money at the problem but thinking it's the switchbox or keypad going out. Any suggestions, thanks.

Might try and purchase/plug in an emergency Yamaha motor manual start switch bypassing your Ranger keypad. I think Ranger parts will have it. It will help you determine where the bad connection is coming from. If it still fails on manual switch, there is very little wiring left other than the battery and start switch and motor and kill switch circuit and console circuit power breaker to cause motor to stop.

Ran the boat all weekend and it never acted up again. Funny I took my voltmeter onboard and everything worked perfect.

Had a similar problem with my 04 Ranger 225 HPDI, didn't happen to me while running so the motor didn't shut down, it was on the trailer going to weigh in and lost all power to live wells. Problem was the main 30 breaker had gone bad, replaced it and haven't had a problem. Might be a place to start.

like slowfly said, bad breaker. that is the typical symptom. replace the breaker and if it does it again then check from there to electrical stuff for shorts, bad equipment
