Hi , just wondering which species of Carp gives the best fight in your opinion ?
We like you have the Common Carp which is pound for pound easily the best scrapper ,in fact i would say a Common at 8lbs would out fight a Mirror at 16lbs .
Just wondering if there is any comparisons or big differences .

Mirror carp over here are rarely caught. Many of our carpers have yet to catch one. Most of the carp caught are commons. I haven't noticed any apprecialble difference in the fight. I met a carper from the UK and took him for one of his first Texas sessions. We only caught small fish, under ten pounds, but he told me that the carp here seemed to fight better than the carp he was used to.

i think river carp fight better than lake carp. Male carp seems to be better fighters as well than the heavier females

Definitely long lean males. I've never caught a true river common of any size so I can't really comment on that, but the best fight I ever had was from a squeaker 20 that was definitely male. I did catch it on bass gear so that skews things a bit but it was a solid 20 minute drag stripping battle I'll never forget.

Yes where there's a current they seem to fight harder. Commons the hardest, grassers the least hardest until they get to the bank.
PB Buff - 56lbs
PB Common - 26lbs
PB Mirror - 7lbs
PB Grasser - 45lbs
PB Koi - 10lbs

the best fight i ever had was from my 31 common. that fish was on speed!!! 2nd best was my 54 buffalo. my 58 buff came in like a wet boot lol.

Some real fish there Chris . My PB Mirror is 18lb caught on light gear 6lb breaking strain and a 10 foot puddle chucker rod with a size 16 hook.
30 mins to land... numerous lucky escapes via snags and weed . Nothing sticks in the memory more than a confrontation with a Carp.

Coming from an Angler who does not fish for Carp but has caught a few over the years both on rivers. creeks, and lakes. They all fight HARD! Even the ones on the Creeks are some fantastic fighters.
