Need a little advise... I have a friend who wants me to tie some jigs for him to duplicate one he caught a hog on a few weeks ago. It has rubber/silicon legs as the tail... On his jig, they stick straight back, but on my attempts, I am having a challenge with them. They seem to want to splay out, like deer hair when I secure them to the jig.... I am trying to find the balance between secure and & not slipping and but not fanning out. Any advise?? Thanks!!

I know what you mean Bob...they take some talent to use...Its hard to describe, but, the only two things Ive found that helps.. 1.Tie them onto the hook, while still attached to the strand..and cut to length after.. 2.If using loose, they will fan out,tie in fairly close to the head, and use your chenille to make it lay somewhat flatter.

Yeah, I have thinking about the 2nd idea... Tie it securely close to the head and then looser wraps as I move towards the tail. Once that is done, tie in the chenille as normal.... Maybe a bit of CA glue as well to keep them still?? The trick will be using two different colors in the mix, 5 strands each... Wrap your thread around the rubber a bit higher up on the shank, toward the base of the head, then wrap some chenile down lower on the shank to keep the rubber straight.

Bob, If you're still having problems come to Cabelas in Allen tonight and I can show you a couple of tricks with rubber legs that work for me. We'll be there starting around 6:30 (in the fly fishing area).

We tied a few just in case you came. The key is to get several loose wraps over the leg material before pulling the thread tight.
