Are you fishing for channel cats or blue cats? Makes a big difference in what kind of combo you need.

Blue Ming cl60 and a pro angler rod I belive that'll put you at $90 it's gonna be hard to get quality for cheaper than that.
You can get both from DEERSTRANGLER

Pro Angler and about 6500c3s would be a good combo but over his budget. That is also a overkill for just chanelcat fishing. If channel fishing go with a normal bass setup like others have said or also cheaper medium or medium heavy spinning tackle. If focusing on big blues I would look for used abu's and 7' medium heavy ugly sticks.

We run 95% Garcia's but have 4 Mings on the boat that we use as well and haven't had a problem yet and we're hard on equip. As far and quality for money goes, you aren't going to beat it, if your limit is a bill.

For strictly box fish rigs I run Garcia 5000-5500's you can get off ebay, I've bought 5 for under $30 in great condition. Put it on a Ugly Lite inshore medium action from academy for 39.99.. best box fish rig i've ever used.

X2, i use the 7ft Ugly Sticks with abu garcia 6500c's with 15lb Cabelas camo proline. Throw a pretty good ways w/2oz sinker and a three way rig.
Best ever-49# blue caught on Red river
