Welcome aboard
I use the 1/8th when the wind is blowing
1/16th in shallow/calm water

Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

Usually the lightest you can fish depending on wind, depth, vertical fishing, or casting. At least that's what I have always done. If throwing a cork, you could use 1/32 or 1/48, deep water with wind it's probably be good to use 1/8 oz. +. If casting/retrieving, try a 1/16. I guess on the body length, 1-1//2 to 2-1/2" is pretty standard.

Welcome!

I use a 1/8 or a 1/16 most of the time. Use the lightest you can while still staying in contact with the jig. If you are brand new to jig fishing, I would probably recommend a 1/8 until you get more feel of the jig and what it is doing down there.

Most of the time I use a 1/32. But I recently learned that , the deeper you fish the heavier you need to be.
