This bass was caught on a swimbait in California a couple days ago by Mike Gilbert who has a reputation for hunting and catching giant bass. This fish was released to lay her eggs.

think of how much bigger that bass could have been if they had a sharelunker program!

Barret. California produces the biggest bass and doesnt need nor will they ever inplement a sharelunker program bottom line is they insure big bass water are treated right in many ways. Just depends on the body of water. I miss my home state where I could float tube ponds in san diego and catch 5-8 pounders like crazy.

Good gracious!
You think it's diet has anything to do with how big it is?
There are a few places in Texas where Florida strain live, trout are stocked and gas engines are not allowed. One has produced a couple of SALs too.
Sounds like a good combo for giants!

Beautiful bass!

Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

That fish is truly a Freak of nature....

I have fished several of the lakes in Cali and many of them don't allow gas engines at all. Noted Big Bass Guru Butch Brown has an aluminum rig with 6 batteries on it for fishing places like the Lower Castaic Lagoon.
